    Icon14 Howitzer à Cheval v1.0

    Allow me to proudly present, my first ever Total War mod:

    Howitzer à Cheval





    Complete with custom info & icon graphics!



    I would like to make this available to you all: Howitzer à Cheval!
    I wanted a more mobile howitzer ingame, and noticed there was no horse artillery version in the vanilla version.


    Their uniforms are that of the Artillerie à Cheval, as are the grey horses they use:





    Features:

    • Available only to the French Empire.
    • The cost & stats are a mix of both the Artillerie à Cheval unit & the 6-in howitzer, slightly buffed for the elite à Cheval status.
    • Wears the uniform of the Artillerie à Cheval.
    • Grey horses of the Artillerie à Cheval.
    • As an elite unit, recruitment is limited to 4.

    Recruitable at the Engineer School building:




    Installation: This unit is available in mod .pack format.
    Place the howitzer_a_cheval.pack file in your \data directory and add the following to your user.script.txt file: mod howitzer_a_cheval.pack;
    A copy of the proper user.script.txt entry is included in the attached .rar

    To remove the mod, simply remove howitzer_a_cheval.pack from your \data directory and remove the corresponding entry from user.script.txt



    Additional Resources: The screenname is available for those using the Unit Pack Compatibility Project localization file, version 2.0 or later.
    The unit is also included in ToonTotalWar's Napoleon All in One mod.

    This looks like excellent work! Im just wondering, since im using Thoragoros's Total Combat Mod and General Beales, Order of War Mod, does this conflict with these or any other mods?

    To be honest, I dont have enough experience with mods to say one way or another. Your best bet would be to try it and check out custom battles. If thats messed up then there you have it. The unit is set to be built in the same places and with the same building as the Artillerie à Cheval.

    Great mod, I am Becoming a Modder and I was planning to make my first mod, It would be challenging, and could take an entire weekend, But i had to Do it, and guess what i was thinking, Horse howitzers, But you bet me to it, and you even came up with a better name!Oh well! Great work!

    Ha! Great mind think alike! Seriously though, this Total War modding is not easy to get the hang of. This literally took me all_day long. I made so many versions of this and if you mistype one thing the whole mod goes to pot. It was very frustrating and hard work, but I wanted firstly to have this unit to play with in my game, so as you say it just had to be done. Rewarding, to say the least, when people are as thankful as you lot.

    Yes, I PM'ed him before I even posted this to make sure there was nothign special I needed to do for inclusion in that Project. I presume it'll be included in the next iteration of that file.





    Is this working correctly for everyone? You should see the new icon pic (looks like Artillerie à Cheval, but with a howitzer on the carriage) and the larger info pic when you go to get their stats too. They should look exactly like Artillerie à Cheval in terms of uniforms on the battlefield.

    I'm so glad people like this! Stay tuned for my 2nd ever mod, potentially for release today if I can figure out a skin issue.

    It's another mini-mod (I love the mini ones, lets you customize every little thing without accepting someone else's grand vision), which changes Napoleon's bodyguard unit to include Chasseurs à Cheval de la Garde as the soldiers and even features an appearance by Napoleon's trusted personal mamluk bodyguard Roustam. Its giving me some issues as its not a common type of project that there are step by steps for. For instance keeping some of the Napoleon unit traits, but also getting the unit to act like Chasseurs à Cheval and use their guns appropriately. I have the models worked out but their skins aren't working for some reason.

    2 Questions:

    Is there a unit limit?

    And is this for the 6lb howizer, or the experimental howizer?
    And depending on which, could you make both...uhh...horseified?

    Hi. I'm not sure, I'd have to recheck and I'm about to leave for work. I copied directly from the Artillerie a Cheval unit, so if that one isn't limited, this shouldn't be too. If it is limited, it will have the same number.

    This uses the standard 6lb howitzer as I rarely use the experimental one in my games. I suppose I could try to cook up one based on the Experimental howitzer, but if its going to take me another 14 hours to figure out, don't wait for me!

    Haha, not at all! I've always just used reskins and the occasional gameplay tweak rather than the large overhaul mods. To be honest, I cant figure out how you guys manage those big mods. This was so difficult and frustrating, way too complicated for what you end up with in the end.

    Thanks for the compliment though, indeed I tried to release somethign I could be proud of, all done up nicely with cards etc.

    I take it from the lack of problems that this thing is actually working for everyone. It should; I'm just amazed that it does.

    Yup, it should. I actually have not played a campaign yet in Napoleon. I pretty much play only custom & historical battles. However, I did set the recruitment building to be the same as Artillerie a Cheval, so look for it to be built in the same places that unit can be built at (again, at work so I cant reference the game here).
