Thread: Strange Reinstallation error

  1. #1

    Default Strange Reinstallation error

I wanted to get rid of Roma Surrectum, so i deleted Rome Total war via Add/remove programs, and checked if anything was left in the folder, which there wasn't. (Other than directX files)

On the second disk on the file death_julii_grass_320X240.wmv, it sits and waits for about 10 minutes than brings up this.

    Feature transfer error
    Feature:Rome: Total war data
    Component: Data
    File: D:\Data3.cab
Error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Clean the disc. Check it for scratches, dirt, fingerprints, etc.

If it happens, again, post the full error message.

It did it again, Disk 2 is actually my cleanest, least scratch ridden disk.

    Feature transfer error
    Feature:Rome: Total war data
    Component: Data
    File: D:\Data3.cab
Error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

    Is the full error message.

A couple of times it said on the Error line
    Data Error (cycle redundancy check)

Does it have the deepest scratch? Is the plastic itself have any hairline cracks especially around the center hole/

Will a little toothpaste and a lot of elbow grease fix the disc?

Try copying the entire disc to a folder on your HDD, if it can't copy you'r screwed, if not you can run setup.exe from your HDD instead. I've kept my RTW installation on my HDD for the last 4 years due to the same issue! Hard to keep 3 discs clean back in the day...
