Indian Articles and Illustrations of Soldiers

Illustrations of Sultanate of Delhi soldiers of 1450
Very little Islamic book painting has been preserved from the sultanate period before the advent of the Mughals in 1526. These miniatures come from a manuscript made by an artist who was highly influenced by Jain art from western India. Both the intense palette and the depiction of figures differ from those found in other Islamic painting.

    Early Mughal Art
Practically, the art of Mughal miniature painting begins with Akbar, who reigned from 1556-1605. However, early miniatures suggest the existence of art activity prevailing at the court of Akbar's father Humayun as well.
    Prince Akbar Hunting a Nilgae, c.1555 - 1560
It took some 15 years to complete the Great Mughal Akbar’s copy of the Hamza-nama, which originally contained about 1400 miniatures. This was a gigantic project in every respect, a collaborative effort by Persian and Indian artists that is considered a pioneering work of early Mughal painting. The book is a fictitious account of the life of Hamza, the Prophet Muhammad’s uncle.
