I liked the first fresco, that inscription on the blade gave it mystical look. Nothing like a runes on blades to make cool factor of weapon

    "Where" isn't a "yes/no" question.
I'm asking because I remember such discussions at Boina Slava and maybe Nauka.bg, where they had albums with even more pics, but can't remember where.

that frescoe is from Gracanica, serbian monastery. and i think that others are too from serbian monasteries. i'll search for them

Nevermind, I found Thorn's profile at bgphoto. Here's his Balkan warriors album that I was thinking about.

Nikola i was searching about bulgarian equpmant from the late period and i found this frescoe but you shoud remember that this shields are not only serb\bosnian there where use in almost the how of Europe
and how you know that this frescoe ilustraited only serbians and not the tipical equpmant for the era .And shoud consider that much of the Serbian empire was based on bulgarian and greek land some of thise churches can be before the raise of Serbia or athers are from the period of the wars from 1878-1918 that are been given to Serbia .But it is posible that this church is from old serbian teritory

i would not agree. ian is great historian, and i have no doubt in his work. i've never seen those shields in any other nation, but balkan. it was maybe in use by bulgarians, but it was typical balkan shield.
yes, i know, but you should consider that Gracanica is even now in territory of serbia, and most of the frescoes and monasteries with them were made in 14th century, when serbia held macedonia, and parts of bulgaria

have you read this book? well, hungarians took over from bosnians. not only in ian's book, also in osprey i think. hussars had square shields, and they came from serbia. hungarians started using square shields in late 14th, early 15th century as shields for light cavalry. there are drawings on stecci from bosnia, which dates from 13th century, a long before hungarians even used
