I believe its actually because the shields have horizontal grips rather than vertical ones, and so they need new animations to compensate for the different grip feature on the back. Yes.. we are that dedicated (and masochistic). But I'll pass on the word to the modellers and see what they make of it.

Just for a partial FYI, there is a solution to the shield problem that post-dates the preview (but is already part of the build). So it's being worked on.
