Well, there's hardly anything new I could say aside what's already in the first post. The project is advancing slowly but surely: the first part (titles) is done, and I hope SSNOP will be finalized soon. In the meantime I'm also working on the region and settlement names, but apparently the file won't need much change.
As for the traits/ancillaries project, I guess I'll launch it within a week.

    @brennas

Thanks mate, a rep is well deserved for your suggestions.
Actually, I'm a big fan of Alifonso (I even chose him as the 'face' of my mod! ) as he was practically the perfect warrior: battled through his entire life, slept with his armor and sword, and kicked everyone's ass who dared to stand in his way. Since he campaigned all the time, it's little wonder he had no more energy to pursuit women...

Although it's not sure yet, he's likely to be the most powerful general in my mod!

Good news for players, my very first region/settlement names update should be completed by tomorrow.
It will contain numerous corrections and changes, and even better is that the file (like expanded.txt) will also be save-game compatible.

Can I add that to the Compilation?

All right, the first version of my improved region and settlement names is up in the first post, along with a new fifth table containing all changes in the file.
This little addition forms the second part of my historical project - it may be used separately from my other mods and is compatible with saved games.

    Some important changes:
    - Galicia renamed to Beira
    - Halychyna renamed to Galicia
    - Gascony renamed to Midi-Pyrénées
    - Greater Flanders renamed to Brabant
    - Switzerland renamed to Alemannia
    - Alamania renamed to Nordgau
    - Bern renamed to Zürich
    - Cologne region renamed to Lower Lorraine
    - Moab renamed to Oultrejordain
    - Tortosa renamed to Tripoli

The total number of changes is around 60.
Feedback is always appreciated, and feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions!

    Looks good.
I'll apply it the next time I run the setup (I've made myself a version compatible with the sub-mod manager for my personal use)

All right, I've launched a new thread for the fourth part of my project, the improvement of the in-game traits and ancillaries.
As usual, suggestions and new ideas are warmly welcomed (and rewarded) there: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=385159

Wouldn't the improved region/settlement names have to change the descr_regions.txt
    in the data/world/maps/base folder?
I got CTDs last time I tried it without editing that file...
When I did edit it(to put in the new stuff), it worked fine.

No, editing the descr_regions file is not required here, unless you want to set rebel types, religions etc.
Basically, the files in the data/text folder are the ones that determine how the various texts (names, titles, descriptions and so on) appear in the game.

this might have been adressed before, but Skara wasn't a fort during the early medieval times, but a city with a great spiritual administration, comparable with Lund... Nyköping was named that in 1230... before that there is no certain sources of it's correct name... this is also true for Kalmar (early 1200).... in the early campaign, it might be more correct to use Sigtuna instead of Nyköping (founded 980)... I can't think of an equvilent for Kalmar though...

also, Turkku should be Swedish when or if that faction will appear... the Swedish colonization of Finland started during the 11th century with Viking incursions and later small crusades... during the 12th century the coastal regions of Finland was considered a Swedish province...

This makes sense gameplay-wise, too, there's too few cities in Norway+Sweden IMO.
As for the other things you said, I agree. Though I think the odds of Sweden being added are pretty low.
*Thinks of what SS might have been like without all the hardcoded limits*

yep... IMHO I think that Sweden deserves to be a playable faction instead of eg. Norway... the impact of Sweden during the early 12th century is greater than that of Norway with crusades to the baltic region, the expanse towards Finland and wars against Novgogrod and the Hanseatic League... with that said, Norway deserves to be in the game also, but during this time it was a lot of political turbulence in the state with civil wars and such and Norway was more of a puppet to Denmark and Sweden (hence the Kalmar union and the beginning of the Denmark/Norway faction) and didn't expand any (except for the migration to Greenland and Iceland, which isn't in the game)...

nah, instead of Georgia I would rather see a nice, Scandinavian pot of soup...

I'd love for Sweden to be included, but sadly there's all those hard-coded limits.
How I'd like it implemented if it was possible, though:

    • Several units unique to Sweden
    • Several more regions added to Scandinavia so that it doesn't get too cramped
    • Sweden, Denmark and Norway start off with somewhat bad relations, to encourage warfare
    • Norway starts with Oslo

I mostly want Sweden in the game so that I could destroy them several times over

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll give them a thought - the Sigtuna/Nyköping change looks pretty reasonable to me.

Norway will indeed start with Oslo in my mod, and they'll have one of the most powerful generals of the game in the form of King Sigurd I the Crusader.

Good, Norway starts off a bit too weak in 6.3.
I'm still looking forward to the release of your sub-mod, and to your name sub-mod (I have permission to put that one in the Compilation when it gets released, right? (I think you said something to that effect earlier once, at least))

Well, yes, anyone may use SSNOP (I only ask for credit in return), but it'll need a descr_strat overhaul (changing the obsolete names) in the first place to be compatible with SS. However, I guess you should consult with Seether too, as the current escr_strat is his 'territory' (part of AFR), so he'll have to give you permission if you want to change the names there.
As far as I know, he plans to do the implementation on his own, so his mod will include mine, meaning there's no need for others to do that (though you may help him if you wish).
