There is the option of making 200 good looking portraits and deleting the ugly ones.

    True.
But I'd hate to deny my enemies of their village idiots.

I don't think you can add a portrait to under age characters (but I haven't tried yet). I would assume the default child portrait would overrule that.
There is (probably) a way to do that via scripting: send him off-map when he comes of age and then 'returning' him with a custom portrait.

    Now there's an idea.
    I appreciate the feedback, Gigantus.

Is there a way to make catholic priests portraits in eastern cultures such as Hungary/Poland while keeping pagan priests portraits for other appropriate eastern culture factions?

I got "pagan_priests" + "orthodox_priests" portraits in my eastern_culture folder. However, I also made some catholic priests portraits. The thing is unless I remove the pagan/orthodox_priest folder I get those crappy default priest portraits for eastern culture catholic factions like Hungary/Poland etc; creating a "catholic_priests" folder doesn't work. The thing is I want to keep my pagan_priests portraits too, but if I do Hungary/Poland goes default priest portraits

The portraits in the custom folders will have preference over the regular portraits.
I was not aware that you couldn't make more then two custom folder per character (at least that is what you are describing). To have a third set (the catholic) displaying, have to tried to add them to the default folder in the eastern_european culture?:
    ...\data\ui\eastern_european\portraits\portraits\young\priests

You might also want to change the portrait mapping in descr_cultures for the EE culture.

I can't get it to work in photoshop
I guess transparency for TGA files is handeled differently, since I do get it to work in GIMP.

I believe in Photoshop there are several options when saving in TGA format. Try the different settings.

Yes I got it to work right now, though it is more then just changing saving options.

Make sure you select to portrait outline and leave the background intact.
Then go to: select -> save selection and create a new channel
then save the file as portrait_young.TGA and make sure the "Alpha Channels" box is ticked.
Then select 32 bits/pixel and tick the box called "Compress (RLE)".

For as far as I have found, this is needed on all CS versions of photoshop.

Thanks for the insight - certainly sounds easier to do with GIMP.

If I delete the background it turns white not grey squared.

You have to set your 'new' settings to transparent background. Right now it is set to white. See the attachment for more details. If you wish to change your current setting, select the white background and then change it to transparency (colors\color to alpha)

Great tutorial Gigantus as always. +rep. Just a question, I'll use Osprey Men-at-Arm books as template for making new UI for my mod like this one:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

I am not sure about copyright issue but I'm pretty sure I can but just to confirm.
    Regards.

I don't think the fractional use of the Osprey pics here is extensive enough to warrant a copy right issue. It would be a different case if you used them for unit info pics.

Damn i am to old to understand.

    I want byzantine portraits:
Opened data/ui/greek/ and created portraits folder.
Then family folder and a 2nd portraits folder.
Inside portraits folder i created three folders young/old/dead inside each one i created a subfolder named generals.
I made a simple portrait without background in the proper sizes 68x96 pixels living blanck the background and saved it as 000.tga
and copied it in to the three folders.
    Nothing happened.
Damn i am an old dog that can not learn new tricks!

TGC in order to continue its development seak one or more desicated scripters to put our campaign scripts mess to an order plus to create new events and create the finall missing factions recruitment system. In return TGC will give permision to those that will help to use its material stepe by step. The result will be a fully released TGC plus many mods that will benefit TGC's material.
Despite the mod is dead does not mean that anyone can use its material
    read this to avoid misunderstandings.

IWTE tool master and world txt one like this, needed inorder to release TGC 1.0 official to help TWC to survive.
Adding MARKA HORSES in your mod and create new varietions of them. Tutorial RESTORED.
