OK, I have one that may be completely off, it certainly doesn't make that much sense to me, but here goes.

I thought the name Lord Greystoke sounded familiar, and I figured it was the name of the a historical pirate. But when I started trying to research this, all that came up was that Lord Greystoke was the English name of the fictional character Tarzan. I guess they're both sort of exiles in foreign lands in a way, but it still doesn't make that much sense to me, so I'm guessing that I'm just wrong about this one.

Who ever said it had to make sense

If I like the name and I feel the sound fits thats often enough.

I always liked the sound of the name, sounds regal to my ear, and Privateers were gentlemen (Drake ect), so I felt if fitted nicely.

So it didn't have anything to do with Tarzan? I sort of figured that.

The town Yaluk is named after the mayan lightning god.

This might be obvious but Valhalla is where the vikings thought brave warriors came to after death.

Its pleasing to see people have noticed the references.

I spent a lot of time sourcing appropriate names for the various things thera, and I was never sure if most of it was lost on the players, its very rewarding to see that it isnt.

About Wotan - "It is said that the men of Wotan were first born of fire and ice" (or something like that - this could be refer to the books of G.R.R Martin (A Song of Fire and Ice).

Probably a bit too far-fetched, but could Barka be a reference to Barcelona FC (Barca)?

I'm just going off from your tangent:
Barcelona, named after Hannibal Barca, the Carthaginian general. (true)
Carthage, modern day Tunis. (true more or less)
Barka Sultanate, adapted Vanilla faction "Egypt" (As far as I can see)
They probably had control over Tunisia historically. Therefore they are linked. (I guess?)
Am I getting somewhere with this???
