Ships
Anybody here got any good sources on Ships, particularly their Construction times and costs.

Found only one source - "Billy Ruffian" by David Cordingly. Page 23 says that although Bellerophon took 4 years (due to the ship's green timbers being required to dry out) 2years was the usual construction time for a 74, although this could be reduced to 18 months.
As to cost, see Appendix 1 - the hull cost £30,232 14 shillings and 3 pence, the cost of coppering & fitting out (including rigging, masts etc) totalled £14,825 3s 6d. She was finally sold for £4,030 on 21 January 1836 for scrap.
As to other sources, from the book's footnotes I would suggest: B. Lavery's "The Ship of the Line"; "The arming and fitting of English ships of war 1600-1815"; "Building the wooden walls"; Jean Boudroit's "The Seventy-four gun ship"; also Public Record Office Admiralty Documents 106/....
