    Default Patch 5

Patch 5 is now available for download. Patch 5 contains as usual all of the previous patches and will be the last patch before the final release of IJ.

As this is the final patch I would appreciate any comments mdae so that changes can be incorporated in the official IJV4.0 release.

Follow this link to the download page:
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=126462

NOTE: Please point the installer to your RTW folder. After installation there should be a Patch 5.txt file in your IJ folder.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PATCH IS NOT SAVEDGAME COMPATIBLE

AND IT DEFAULTS TO THE 361AD CAMPAIGN WITH:

    IJ STRAT MODELS
    CA VANILLA MUSIC

If you have installed other options you will need to reinstall these again.

Here is a breakdown of the main changes or additions:

Roman military and administrative titles are now dependent upon the particular province. The provincial administration looks like this, using the the Gaullic Diocese as an example.

    Praefectus praetoria Galliarum:

whose effects are: +2 Management, +2 Influense, 10% bonus on tax income, 15% discount on construction costs, -1 Morale for all troops on the battlefield, -10% to Movement Points

and requires the following attributes to gain the office; Management > 1, Influence > 1 and Loyalty > 0.

    Then come the Vicarius Galliae:

whose effects are: +1 Management, +1 Influence, 5% bonus on tax income, 10% discount on construction costs, -1 Morale for all troops on the battlefield, -10% to Movement Points

Then under the Vicarius Galliae is a series of govenors

    (consularis/praeses) whose effects are:
+1 Management, +1 Influence, 5% discount on construction costs, -1 Morale for all troops on the battlefield, -10% to Movement Points

You will notice that all administrative titles have negative effects for all aspects military. This is to replicate the division between adminstrative and military positions.

Again using Gaul as an example, for the military posts we first have the:

    Magister Militum Galliam:

whose effects are: +2 Defence, +1 Morale for all troops on the battlefield, +1 Command when fighting against Barbarians, -1 Management

then under him a number of Comes and Dux whose effects are:

+1 Management, -1 from unrest (improves public order), +2 Defence and pluses for fighting against particular enemies, for example

Comes Gallia; +1 Command when fighting against Barbarians
Comes Hispaniarum; +1 Command when fighting against Barbarians
Comes Britanniae; +1 Command when fighting against Barbarians
Dux limitis Mauretaniae Caesariensis;+1 Command when fighting against Desert People

The magisters require the following attributes to gain the title: Command > 2, Influence > 1, Loyalty > 1 and the comes require the following attributes; Loyalty > 0, Command > 1

So for a character to gain an administrative or military title, the faction has to be in possession of at least some parts of the Gallic Diocese.

    Foederati Recruitment

Foederati were not really recruitable until the foedus signed between the Goths and the Romans in 382AD apart from the Franks who signed a treaty with Julian in 358AD. So all foedus, with the exception of the Ghassanids are recruitable via a scripted trigger. This is to better reflect the historical changes over the 50 year timeframe for this mod.

These are the following scripted triggers:

    358AD - Frankish Foedus

    Recuited in Augusta-Treverorum and Colonia-Agrippina

    380AD - Greuthungi Goths/Hunnic Foedus

    Recuited in Sirmium and Aquincum

    382AD - Thervingi Goths Foedus

Recuited in Serdica, Marcianopolis and Hadrianopolis

    395AD – Gaelic Foedus

    Recuited in Eburacum

    410AD - Germannic Foedus

Recuited in Argentoratum, Carnuntum and Hadrianopolis Augusta-Vindelicorum

These triggers will allow the recruiting of foederati by allowing foederati buildings to be built.

Of course barbarians can still be recruited as mercenaries.

    Sassanid Satrapy Titles

The Sassanids, similiarily can also gain the title of Satrapy for a particular province and is gained via being in possesion of that particular city corresponding to the province.

The effects for this title is: +2 Management, +2 Influense, 10% bonus on tax income, 15% discount on construction costs, -1 Morale for all troops on the battlefield, -10% to Movement Points, so is similiar to the roman adminstrative effects.

    Lahkmid Arab Ethnic Traits

Arab tribal names as ethnic traits for the Lahkmids faction, thanks to Gen.jamesWolfe

Changes to 361AD and 365AD Campaigns

In these campaigns the Iazyges Sarmatians are no longer available as a faction having been effectively destroyed by Constantius II, though unts can be recruited as auxiliary and mercenary troops. There place has effectively been filled by the Quadi.

    Other Changes

Germannic cavalry units have been completed
Frankish infantry have had a makeover

Elite Germannic Infantry can now be recruited in campaign
Gaelic Heavy Cavalry can also be recruited in campaigns.

    New ancillary portraits by Joar
    New Event Pictures by Joar
Some extra ancillaries such as Hindu Priest, Hindu Philospher, Buddhist Philospher.

    Attachment Upgrade - IJ.rar Revision J

I have included as an addition the missing sassanid_satrapy.tga file for the ancillary and the edited export_descr_buildings.txt file which allows for the recruitment of Quadi Slingers, Warband Archers, Heavy Cavalry a lot of missing Vandal units and Saxon Champions in-game. Please copy and paste into your IJ folder.

The latest upgrade now allows for elite units to be recruited by barbarian factions in their capital city.
Also allows for the recruitment of roman Equites Vexillationes to be recruited in Mediolanium
Has also fixed the graphic error with Saxon Duguş-Eorid Infantry.
    Includes missing texture file: IJ_unit_limitanei_armatusB_east.tga
Full Script has been fixed to eliminate CTDs
Includes revised sarmatian cavalry, barbarian noble lancer models, golden band models and barbarian heavy axe model.
    Includes missing desc_ship.txt file
Revised Barbarian General, Lesser General and Steppes models
    Revised spear_warbandA and suebi_2H_swords models
Included revised arcuballistarii, manubalistarii_west and manubalistarii_east models
Please copy and paste into your RTW folder.

I thank Justinius for his assistance in pointing out some of these omissions.

    Cheers

Huns didn't play a large part in roman affairs until flavius aetius led an army of 60000 of them against aspar and his father, gaudentius, at ravenna in 425

They were part of the Gothic Groups, though small from the late 370's and were settled along with some Ostrogoths by Valens as Foderati in Pannonia in 380AD. This comes from a Journal article in the International Revue of Byzantine Studies by Hrvoje Gracanin titled The Huns and South Pannonia.

Thanks for the update - will the patch be save game compatible? I am deep into a wonderful 361 AD campaign and would be wary of having to start all over again?!

    Keep up the good work!

I remember reading that a small amount of huns participated at adrianople and the visigothic wars (376-382) But Pannonia was a western roman province. Also, the romans had full control of pannonia until aetius ceded it to the huns as a gift for helping restore him to power in 433. Of course aetius took the province back in 450 when attila began his gallic campaign

Good to see you around, Anibal ad portas!
I'm sure patch 5 will include all of the other patches, as usual. Let's wait for JH to confirm this, though.
    Saludos.

Oh well, I will struggle on as I am only up to 366 AD but have fought over 120 battles - shame to give that up so soon!

Oh don't worry, a lot were naval battles and skirmishes with rebel troops - I am currently running at around a 50% win - or loss depending on your view!

All roman military and administration titles will essential be province based (no more Dux Britiannae in Antioch!!), which is far more realistic.
    Thats verry god.

I am so excited on the patch!

So with the Barabrian foedrati troops, there won't be the foedrati camps like there was before?
EDIT: And I forgot to ask, what's the stone forts situation?

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
What have the Romans ever done for us?? apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?
    Some of my favourite quotes:
"Your god has yet to prove himself more merciful than his predecessors" ~ Hypatia, as represented in the film 'Agora'
"If you choose to do nothing, they will continue to do this again and again, until there is no-one left in the city, no people for this governement to govern"

No, not at the beginning apart from the Ghassanids. Any further foederati camps will be triggered by the script at the appropriate time, though of course you can still hire barbarian mercenaries which the romans often did.

In relation to the stone forts I haven't included them as yet.

    Cheers

So you need to build the camps and then at the correct date the foedrati are triggered?

No, the camps will be triggered by the correct date, then you can upgrade if you want.
