Thread: The Mad God's 100% Historically Accurate Mod

  1. #1

Default The Mad God's 100% Historically Accurate Mod

    My friends,

Having discussed this topic extensively in the history sub-forum and the NTW general board, I have seen the error of my ways and decided to correct the blatant historical inaccuracies of the NTW game.

I would like to thank Jihada, Eregost, IAB1789, and various others for their contributions, well-formed arguments and dedication to the fine art of debate.

I give you the 100% accurate mod. It's not quite done yet of course, but I feel I've got the feel right. Of course, the annoying error where it crashes if you try to play the French in custom persists, but the campaign is functional.

I would like to apologize to those mentioned above and thank them profusely for giving me the knowledge I needed to make this mod. You guys are great

    EDIT:
    This is a parody mod

ok, you've got my attention with "100% historically accurate". Perhaps you could elaborate a bit as to what I'd be unleashing on my game if I installed this?

I would agree with 'The Nanny'. Could you please provide some details on exactly what you've changed for this mod?

Well, with my extensive research here on the TWcenter, I quickly came to the conclusion that, if anything, CA did not make the British strong enough. It is obvious from reading the debates on the NTW forums that the British clearly should be able to easily wipe the floor with anybody, anywhere, anytime, and that the Russians, who I previously quite foolishly believed to be a decent enough faction, should have the lowest stats in the game.

Therefore I have corrected those issues.

To install, just drop the .pack in your datafolder and change your user.script in the /username/appdata/The Creative Assembly/Napoleon Total War folder (or create it if you haven't got one. I believe there's a guide in the Mod Workshop.)

This is actually a modified version of my misguided attempt to create a 'fun' mod based on 'historical facts' (which were wrong.) You can download the old alpha version of that here:

Says the man in the Vatican, It belongs to God. No! Says the Man in Moscow, It belongs to everyone. I rejected those answers, instead I choose something different... I chose the impossible... I choose.... Rapture. A city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty moralities, where the great would not be constrained by the small. Hey Swerg, I didn't say the Russians were rubbish ,in fact they were known for a stubborn defence. I just made some comment about their militia (oplchenie) being armed mostly with pikes until later in this period. The only idea I make about the British is that they probably were the best infantry ,although the cavalry were easy to lose control and get disordered and winded. The British never made armies as large as the ones possible in NTW so should perhaps have unit cost and maintenance increased for land units. It's difficult to get a balance correct and the 'tongue in cheek' 100% accurate irony is about right.
There are many Nap. wargames rules which give all sorts of stats for national characteristics, not just by British writers. e.g

    Lol, nice mod

The Russians should have one of the highest morale levels in the game IMO. I have read many times that they rarely ran from battle and would often go on fighting 'as if their comrades were still around them' when their fellow soldiers were all dead

I suppose their shooting skill would be questionable but their ferocity should not be underestimated

True; also the fact it was dishonorable for Russian soldiers of the time to scream or make some sort of noise from getting shot, becoming
amputated, decapitated by a cannonball or something else :O (I think this mostly has to do with not discouraging surrounding comrades ).

I am not sure where the idea comes from that they russian line units were poor as this gas vever been acurate. The Russian artlilary was an elite are and would have a much higher moral than the line.Asl the ruassian should have more troops IMO in game tom make up for CA dumbing them down

I think you need to raise Old and Young Guards morale.

I think this comment is funny, because according to the source I have, Opelchenie didn't even exist until "later in this period". I'm thinking 1812 or so, IIRC.

have you raised the morale of Napoleon's troops? they shouldn't be at 18 morale, these were super-soldiers with minds of stone who all fought to the last man. they should be somewhere around 45 morale.
