    Default Lesson 3 Part A

    I've divided Lesson 3 into 2 lessons, both should be fairly easy. The goal for this lesson is to teach you about blending settings, and if you haven't realised how powerful they are I hope you will now.

    Part A wasn't meant to be in from the first time, but I throwed it in there aswell.

    Lesson 3 Part A
    Open up a new canvas with transparent background 450x300.

    Now we gonna do a gradient. Choose a dark red and dark brown color.

    Open up the Gradient tool (not the bucket tool) and choose these settings;

    Now fill the canvas with the gradient by clicking a line on the canvas.

    Now choose the pentool, and make these settings ;

    Now start clicking a curvy path on the canvas, like this.

    Change your foreground color to white.
    Now take out your brushtool, choose a 13pix soft brush with 0%hardness.
    Now take the pentool again. First off, make a new layer so we don't accidentally work on the gradient layer.
    Right click on the canvas (new layer selected) and choose stroke path.
    Use these settings;

    Now right click on the image and chose "Delete Path"

    Well this ain't so beautiful is it? Well first off, it isn't supposed to be eye candy

    Let's continue.

    Double click on the layer with the white "beam".
    Use these settings:

    I would say we are finished now. I personally thinks that my end result don't look good, but that
    was never the purpose. You should now have learnt how to create a lightbeam, a very cool effect.

    Here is some examples how it can be used, and with the very same technique we used above!

    Homework:
    Follow the lesson above and post your result in .PNG.

    If anything is unclear or so, let me know.

    My sucky Photo Shop "Elements" version is really getting to its edges now

    I made the path with Gimp, because Elements has no path option, then loaded the PSD into elements for the glow. The path is not quite the same quality too.

    Passed, and remember to save as .PNG to not lose quality.

    A bit harder to do in GIMP (no layer modes), but it works quite good with the select colour-> Grow, and a gaussian blur
