Unfortunately that info is not a fix but a workaround. I wish this were fixed by CA.

Ultra start with graphics memory above 512mb. If you have a 876mb or a 1gig card, you don't need a workaround.

There will be no fix for lower cards.

I have still to find a workaround for my 512mb card. I have been more busy with tweaking than playing. I increased gfx_video_memory to 1073741824, but it still don't shows
I am having the suspicion there must be some other file to edit than the preference.script in the application data folder.

    That is the only one.

Check to make sure it is still set and then make it read-only.

Note, i can check the ultra box in the options menu but the units still show up in low res.

I have a couple of 9800GX2s, with 1024MB each. Running on ultra, and my units appear to be set to medium detail. What is the cause of this, and is there a fix? It's not game breaking, but it is annoying.

Rather then changing a game file to detect the proper amount of Video RAM has anyone tried changing windows itself? I've had the issue before with my GTX 280 and not being able to select high graphic settings, while lower end cards could. Seemed to be with windows not doing a good job at noticing it has 1024MB of RAM on it. (This also works for 512MB cards in enabling higher graphic settings, though should work for all granted the card has enough memory to support the setting.)

Anyway, the steps to resolve this:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
If you have UAC active you'll want to disable it so you can save.

    1. Download and install Microsoft WMI Administrative Tools from:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    2. Run WMI Studio under Start menu --> All Programs --> WMI Tools.

    3. Clicking the Studio link should open browser. You'll need to use Internet Explorer, since the program uses ActiveX controls. If you have another default browser (Firefox/Opera), you'll need to copy and paste the link into Internet Explorer.

    4. Internet Explorer will by default block the ActiveX component required to run the software, so right click on the yellow information bar at the top of the window and allow blocked content.

    5. A VBScript popup about possible version incompatibility comes up, click OK.

    6. Accept the default namespace connection (root\CIMV2).

    7. Login with your current user id (click OK) if you have sufficient rights, otherwise enter password and username for administrator.

    8. The program will take a while retrieving the classes. After that is finished, click the find button (black binoculars) in button row and type Win32_VideoController in the text box and press Go. Select Win32_VideoController from results box and press OK.

    9. Now you should have a big list of adapter properties on the right side of the window. Locate AdapterRAM row, and click the Value field. Enter the number of *bytes* (not kilobytes or megabytes) corresponding to the amount of video memory on your card. One megabyte = 1024 kilobytes = 1024 bytes, so the amount of video ram memory in bytes is [amount of ram in megabytes] x 1024 x 1024.

    10. Click the save button above the property list (black disk image) and close the browser. If everything went all right, the game should now correctly offer higher detail settings for textures and shadows.

Thanks Strike - However, I'm still getting one last problem.

I use a GTX 260, that says it has 896MB memory, however, in directX Diagnostic Tool, it says the approx. memory is 2158MB

I download the program, follow your steps, etc, etc - however, when I try to save the sheet, it says: "WMI: Access Denied Object Not Saved An error occurred while attempting to update the database."

Do you know how I can fix this? I've tried typing in 917504 in the values box opposite the AdapterRAM box (896 x 1024) and I've tryed 2209792 (2158 x 1024) But no avail...

Any help would be great thanks!

First the number you will want to use is 939524096 (896 * 1024 * 1024 - the directx memory listing includes the system memory the card can use as well).

Are you using Vista or Windows 7? If so disable UAC then you should be able to save. You can re-enable UAC afterwards if you like.

Mate, I'm afraid it's not working. I use Vista 32-bit, disabled UAC and all, and yes, it does save, but I'm experiencing no differences for textures.

The main problem is the backpacks used by the French and English - the 'rolled up' top section is really blurry, and so are the bearskins, the horse's mane, and the buttons etc on the soldier's uniforms. Suprisingly, the strap textures are fine...
What ceases to annoy me, however, is that sometimes randomly when I play, the graphics all turn top-notch for a game, then revert back to the blurry textures the next game. I have Anti-Antialising on full, filtering on full etc, but unless it's a PhysicX issue, I just don't understand what's happening...

    Thanks in advance though guys,

    C. Hunter

Forcing your system to recognize the correct amount of video RAM would only allow the higher end settings to be selectable. As far as the textures down grading themselves randomly seems like a game bug/fault. The only other thing I could advise is to open your preferences.script.txt in

    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Napoleon\scripts

and go through all the gfx_XXX settings and change the numbers to 1, 3 or 4 depending on which one equals Ultra for the setting (Should say next to each setting). Then once that is done save the file, then right click -> properties and make it Read Only so the game doesn't reset it.

As it seems though even when I had all ultra selected in game via the options (though I honestly didn't pay much attention to the graphics in game yet) in the file some of the preferences were set at lower values.

Maybe this old trick will help for blurry text?

---------------------------------------- Some text can be hard to read if you have chosen to display Large Fonts in Windows. To address this problem, set the font size to Small Fonts (96 dpi) as follows:
    1) Launch Display Properties (right click on your Windows desktop and choose Properties from the menu)
    2) Select the Settings Tab
    3) Select the Advanced button
    4) Select the General Tab
    5) Under the Display options, ensure the Font Size is set to Small Fonts

Change the line in your preferences mate. Here like this, change the line:
    gfx_video_memory 0; # gfx_video_memory <int>, Override available video memory (bytes) #

    and change it to:
    gfx_video_memory 1541565408; # gfx_video_memory <int>, Override available video memory (bytes) #

    Your graphics are now golden!

I have tride to play a custom battle using some georider_mod and lm_french_retexture_patch_new it seem i get the same result blury textures so i went with just these lm_french_retexture_patch_new and the result was that all looked fine, so there may be soem issues when the game is running two or three skin packs? perhaps this could cause the blury pics...as seen in photo in the other the detail is fine.. so does anyone have any ideas is it a bug in the game ? or is it my computer.
