Thread: Does NTW correct ETW's naval physics?

    Default Does NTW correct ETW's naval physics?

    A few simple questions for NTW players:

    Do heavier gunships still have more powerful but shorter range cannons?

    Can ships still sail directly into the wind?

    Do ships still retreat in a random direction, and inexplicably sink after retreating twice in one turn?

    Are ships still incapable of ramming?

    Do ships list relative to wind direction?

    Have these or any other unrealistic features been corrected? Or does NTW still hold to ETW's principles of 'balance'?

    It's pretty much the same.

    Naval combat was mostly unchanged, except now you can make some repairs during battle.

    ramming- I had two ships collide, but neither one was broken from it. The sound of it was horrible. Did that happen in ETW?

    Listing? Not too much. But they do seem a little bow heavy at all times.

    I've seen masts and bowsprits get torn off/down in ETW before from collisions.

    The naval battles look alot better i've found.

    I noticed the ships rock when firing or being hit, i'm sure they didn't do this in ETW.
    And i think ramming has alot more effect now, it sounds better.

    As far as sailing into the wind, it is still there but slow as molasses. If I am moving slow enough I have missed stays before. My heading will also fall off if I am motionless while facing into the wind. Can't remember if that was the case with ETW or not.

    Never seen any collisions yet...
    But the ships do rock when they fire their guns and are hit.

    I hope they did something to the tractor beams on the ships that was very prone in ETW when the enemy wants to board you

    Ah the age of sail where ships flew across the water as if powered by a nuclear reactor and pivoted like ballerinas to present a broadside to any threat. NTW continues on where ETW left off in perfectly modelling the intricacies and delicate tactical balance the ship combat of the age had...

    Tbh it's absolutely crap beyond description in vanilla. I mean seriously unfun and unplayable. Not even from an anal realism perspective just a general casual gameplay one. Managing one ship is ok as you're able to make the constant adjustments necessary but the more you add the more frustrating it becomes. There's just not a sense of weight or physicality to the ships and it just looks and feels wrong the whole time. It's like watching a 5 year old bench press a jumbo jet. This just means that there's not really a lot of room for tactical manouevre as crossing the T lasts for half a second at best as the ship pivots out of it and your ships at the other side of that battle can't be trusted alone for 5 seconds because postions shift so rapidly.
    Modded it's tolerable and even quite fun but some of the problems remain.

    I'd prefer Samurai TW 2...with the graphics and effects...will be lovely...
    But i guess the next one coming will be the American Civil War theme...
    Wilhelm TW may also be possible followed by Hitler TW

    Ok back to topic...i do find the steamships sort of have NOS or turbocharger in it even able to match out a sloop

    Larger Ships seem to sink into Davey Jone's Locker alot quicker. I would never see one sink in a ETW Naval battle, it would always end before the ship went truly under. Maybe I am just noticing it alot more though because I have recently been playing more naval battles. Can any one else confirm this?

    ANyone still actually play Naval battles? Sure i Loooooooooooovvvvvvvveeee Boats but the naval battles in total war, in my opinion, Are just Ridiculously BAD
