Icon2 You decide: new historical battles for DotS

Hi fans and followers of the great DotS mod, today HSP wants your opinion on the new historical battles we want to create.
For the first release we plan to implement five custom battles/sieges as extra historical battles, now is the time to decide which we choose, so you are all welcome to post your "favourite battle", only keep in mind the time frame (1080-1453) and geographical extension we have to stick to (Europe, North Africa, Near and Middle East to Khorasan).

Battle of Bannockburn. The most important battle of High Medieval Britain.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

    The Battle of Constantinople (1453)

The idea itself of recreating a miniature Constantinople is very tempting, not to mention the ability to re-write the history and bust the Ottomans!

Unfortunately we don't have a Serbian faction, we could make them rebels though, but I don't think you'd appreciate that somehow

We can still make the battlefield though

I know it was technically before 1080, but i think Manzikert would be a faboulous battle to include.

A lot of good ones here, like Crécy, Bannockburn, Navas de Tolosa. Of course the units would have to be modded and the values changed to make the battles historical apart from the setting. But when those aren't yet available, getting the settings would be a good first step (others could be then added later). Unless you want sieges to display towns? Battle of Laupen would be good choice as well if possible to create (no Swiss faction, for instance). And Courtrai.

    EDIT: And Bouvines of course.

Maybe you didnt mean for the team to be your biggest fans, but...

1263 Battle of Largs (Norwegian defeat in Scotland)
1227 Battle of Bornhöved (Danish defeat in Baltic)

I live about 2 minutes away from Largs. They do a great battle reenactment there in September, i'll have to take some pics. Tbh Largs was a rather uninteresting battle, a big storm destroyed all the Vikings ships so only 3 or 4 ships actually landed on the beach, the Scots ran at them and burned one of their boats and threw the rest into the sea, then went home after about half an hour and got pished.

Much like the sight today in fact when we play any Scandinavian football team.

Manzikert but how do we simulate the desertion of the Doukas faction?

Well, we are actually planning to start work when the first version of DotS is released, otherwise it wouldn't make much sense because of the need of parallel testing with correct unit stats, amount of men on each side, possible XAI, balancing etc. so atm we just let the people decide where our priorities are then. However for training purpose we might work on some battles with vanilla in the meantime...

Such things could possibly be done by scripting, however I first have to go into it more before I can give you a definite statement about this.

1227 Battle of Bornhöved (Danish defeat in Holstein, North Germany) Danes lost their dominance over the Baltic

(left) Northgerman coalition under count Adolf IV. against Danes (right) King Waldemar II. already turned his horse for a retreat

"we're way way pre-alpha and what that means is there is loads of features not just in terms of the graphics but also in terms of the combat and animations that actually aren't in the game yet.So the final game is actually gonna look way way better than this!” - James Russell, CA
Just like the elephant animation, this Carthage scenario is actually in the game, it just has a small percantage factor for showing up, that's all...
