Default This game is a sales flop?

This game is much better than Empire, better AI ,more fluid and in many others aspects ,but sells much less.

Due many reasons this game are not selling very well, the new CA strategy who replace the mods possibility's by DLCs, the Empire trauma ,some kind of boycott, non US faction,or any other reason, but...is this game a sales flop or not?http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales...eon-total-war/

Well PC games never sell well compared too console. Also Total war games are "slow burn" games, they sell about 10-20k units per week for a few years, unlike other games which sell 90% of what they will sell in the first week and sell barely anything for the next few weeks before dissapearing into obscurity.

Also Since Napoleon took 1 year to develop building on existing tech, it probably cost Alot less to make so needs to seel fewer to make more profit than empire which was 3-4 years of development.

I don't think you can compare total war to many other games out there, it sells well throughout its lifespan.

maybe the low amount of sales will finally convince them to stop with the dlc crap and help the modders -___-

hehe, i am more inclined to believe that their economy department asks to increase the amount of DLC to make up for lost profits (if it didnt / doesnt sell as well as anticipated).

Empire caused a lot of trauma, some game companies would have went under for releasing such an unfinished game. I have friends (casual gamers) I have tried to convince to buy NTW and they won't have anything to do with it after ETW. You see most of them don't want to set around waiting for patches and ETW had a serious bug that happen in the late campaign where the campaign would crash during sieges when it first came out which made the game near impossible to complete without just auto resolving the battles. I think CA burned the casual gamers and the only market left is the hard cores and those that didn't buy Empire when it was first released.

DLC is stupid, especially for this game. Why pay a bunch of money for just a couple extra units? Now if they would ACTUALLY do an ACTUAL expansion... Then maybe we'll talk about buying this DLC. Otherwise, waste of money DLC is.

I was directly responsible for selling 4 copies of "MAG." That's easy to do, because PS3's are relatively inexpensive, and uniform.

Being friends and family with a multitude of history majors, I am sure they would LOVE this game. Unfortunately, I can't suggest they buy it, as it does take a decent computer to run, and they don't have that. I'd imagine many others have this dilemma.

I do hope it does alright according to those who hold the purse strings, because I'm having a lot of fun with it, and am happy to see CA has "gotten back on the horse" so to speak.

if ca had released a steam free version of this and empire, sales would have risen quite a bit i think. many people cant or wont use steam because of poor internet.i cant, and i wont pirate it (even now). a choice of steam or a standard disc would have cut the problems and improved sales figures at a stroke.as it is,along with no modding tools it means a lot of gamers i know wont touch it.shame really.

Good point. It's hard to say whether or not it's a flop, because we don't know how many units CA expected to sell. It's definitely selling fewer copies than ETW, so if CA were hoping to do one better, then they failed. However, if CA believed NTW would only sell 25% of the number of copies of ETW and it's selling 50%, it might be doing really well. We just don't know, except to compare NTW to previous titles.

I for one won't buy them and didn't buy them for Empire!
If we buy DLCs CA will keep producing them and restricting modding, so we will never again be able to make and enjoy mods!!!

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
j/k. It's "Downloadable Content". You'll also see it called PDLC, which is "Premium Downloadable Content", where the "Premium" denotes that you have to pay for it.

More like increase the cost of DLC or limit future games by taking units out that they clearly worked on in production and release them later as DLC since the cost to make the DLC was added in the development cost/time of the original game thus making DLC pure post release profit.

I would imagine that they have already done that, as in, when making the various units for the game, they probably also made most, if not all of the upcoming DLC units. Relatively small job to make an additional number of units they can spread out over various DLC packs when already doing the "main batch".

I agree with this, as evident by the lower price in my opinion. plus maybe potential buyers are waiting for enough good reviews before they get it after ETW (WHICH WASN'T THAT BAD)

I'm finding it goes the other way, too w/respect to casual/hardcore gamers. I have a slew of hardcore gamer friends that won't buy the game for reasons unrelated to stability.
