Unit Pack Compatibility Languages Project - Empire (UPC-EMP)

    Updated 30.3.18

    What is the UPC?
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The UPC project is necessary for all languages except English, because of added custom texts to the game by modders. Most of these texts are from Unit Pack Mods, Gameplay Mods and Overhaul Mods. Without the UPC you can not see these custom unit names, descriptions and other texts.

Mods are not compatible if they all include an own language file which contains the file localisation.loc. Therefore this mod aims to create an universal localisation.loc file that can be used to make as many mods as possible compatible. Then you can see all custom unit names, descriptions and other texts from the included mods.

You can switch your language in the Steam options of Empire.

The UPC doesn't contain any mods and you must download the mods from the related sites. It contains only the custom texts of the included mods.

Please note that not all mods in each language are translated, but all custom entries are included in English and you can see at least English texts.

There is a little rule in the UPC history. "It is better to see at least an English text, as there would be otherwise just a blank text."

Perfect; I'm going to create the new post.
And I think that you can add this:

    Historical names
    (the same for Rhevant's version)
    to German UPC

It only adds names, no translation is needed.
All my downloads need for uncompressing them:

Hello Isabel, yes there wouldn't be any conflicts. I will include it into the next version.

    Hello to all UPC users,

I'm back and started to put another UPC release together. I was really busy in "real life" and on my job in the last 2.5 weeks.

The next UPC will be released this weekend.

    Cheers

Different mods are not compatible with each other if they require their own language file which contains the "localisation.loc". To make them compatible you must first combine the added "loc" entries within each mod. Therefore this mod aims to create an universal "loc" file that can be used to make as many mods as possible compatible with each other. Then you can see all unit names and descriptions of the included mods.
You can play all included "Unit Pack Mods" together. But there is a limit how many units are shown in the recruitment queue. Please read this: *** UNIT LIMIT IN THE UI RECRUITMENT QUEUE ***

The UPC doesn't need to be activated with the Mod Manager or added to the user script. The UPC is a movie-type file which loads automatically.

It is important that you use only one language file at the same time. You have to remove or disable all language packs which are released with other mods in this folder:

    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\data

You can find the other language files by searching for these examples below. They are mostly called like this:
    patch_***text.pack
    patch_***loc.pack
    movie_***text.pack
    movie_***loc.pack
    ***localisation***.pack

Sorry for a maybe silly question, but I have no idea about the proper usage of Empire mods.

Which unit packs does this mod support? All those, which are listed here?

    Welcome Von Stein;

The game Empire TW uses a ".loc" or "localization" type file for its texts or langauge. If you create/add a mod into the game that involves new units, you must make a new ".loc" file to use that mod or no langauge or text will appear. Skins replace existing ones in game, only mods that have new created units need text files or description. So if you add one new mod to the game, and it has a new unit, the author must also create a new ".loc" file for you to use. If you drop another unit mod into the game, you need the ".loc" file for that one as well, but wait... you can not have more than one ".loc" file at a time, so we have a problem.

Luckily we have a great guy called Swiss Halberdier, who gives up a lot of time and resources to these forums and creates and manages the "Unit Pack Compatibility Project or (UPC)" What this does is amalgamate all new ".loc" files that modders create with their work, and puts them all in one big ".loc" file, so that we as users can use what ever mods we want and get the descriptions. It is one ".loc" to rule them all!! So my advise to you is simple, use the UPC and DO NOT use the locs that come with the mods unless they are not covered by the UPC.

Hope this helps you and others to explain the UPC better

    Push on, brave York volunteers

Thanks a lot Major General for answering this question very precisely while I was away.

    What is the UPC?
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Different mods are not compatible with each other if they require their own language file which contains the "localisation.loc". To make them compatible you must first combine the added "loc" entries within each mod. Therefore this mod aims to create an universal "loc" file that can be used to make as many mods as possible compatible with each other. Then you can see all unit names and descriptions of the included mods.
You can play all included "Unit Pack Mods" together. But there is a limit how many units are shown in the recruitment queue. Please read this: *** UNIT LIMIT IN THE UI RECRUITMENT QUEUE ***

Here is the link to the Unit Pack Compatibility Project (UPC) started by applelover and Swiss Halberdier.

The UPC doesn't need to be activated with the Mod Manager or added to the user script. The UPC is a movie-type file which loads automatically.

It is important that you use only one language file at the same time. You have to remove or disable all language packs which are released with other mods in this folder:

    C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\empire total war\data

You can find the other language files by searching for these examples below. They are mostly called like this:
    patch_***text.pack
    patch_***loc.pack
    movie_***text.pack
    movie_***loc.pack
    ***localisation***.pack

    Hello to all UPC users,

I uploaded the files again because they weren't available anymore after the recent TWC site crash.

Hello to all MODDERS of Empire,

    Important information for MODDERS:
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

You can use the UPC files for your own mod, just give me credits on your thread.

If you want that your mod will be integrated into the UPC, then you can send me a PM or post a message on this thread.

The easiest way for me would be if you could upload your exported TSV localisation file with your custom entries at the end. If you sorted your language file alphabetically,
then it is almost impossible for me to gather all your custom entries within the vanilla entries. Please upload only your custom entries in this case.

    Cheers
    Swiss Halberdier
