Default Changed my decision thanks to demo: no buy for me now, sadly (edited name of old thread)

Just in case any of you guys are interested, I played the demo, and basically hated it. It has most of the same problems Empire had for me, except that it runs slightly better. I have been a serious wargamer for many years, and as far as I am concerned the battlefield movement click delay is absolutely untenable for serious tactical gaming. The graphics are not good enough by comparison to the resources used by the PC, and there are too many leftovers from Empire. I regret that I cannot buy any game utilising the Warscape engine, as NTW's demo confirms to me that it is beyond fixing.

I stress that this is my PERSONAL opinion, and none of you guys altered it. (Just in case anyone felt guilty. Or proud. Or whatever! )

Thanks for your time and help. Props also to CA for releasing the demo prior to my wasting my money.

You're going to hate me for this but...

    Just buy it.

As for the demo, I don't honestly know. If there was one I would have thought CA would have had it out by now.

I seriosuly doubt it. Releasing a demo when the game is out is something quite rare these days.

What would a demo tell you anyways, besides if your machine could run it?

The Illuminati will get you! (BAD RHG, BAD!!! No more DX!!!)

I am sure it's good, and I might eventually buy it, but I would really prefer a demo to get a proper feel for it. It's not so much resentment over Empire, more that I have a lot on my plate and need it to be a truly AWESOME game for it to even come onto my list...

    Cheers, m'dears.

Wasn't the Empire demo just some crappy battle between like Spain and England or something?

I'll say this, it is my favorite TW ever released.

    @Ronin:

Maybe it's because I'm a historian, but I've always considered myself something of an aesthete. I am usually more concerned with how a game feels, and how "elegantly" the whole thing handles than any other consideration. It is a given that it will, in the words of my old friend Lance Corporal Jones "miss the mechanics of the warfare of the period by a mile", but I want to see if the art style grabs me enough to make time investment a worthwile experience.

    Since you ask!

@Ronin again: battle of Brandywine. It was a much better demo than the game was, actually, but with hindsight I should have seen the faults from there. But that's my naivety rather than the game's problem.

EDIT: Damn meant to hit edit not quote! Always doing that...

It's really good man. If your looking for aesthetics, this is it.

That's the impression I got from screens etc. Oh well, I may well have to buy it anyways. I just prefer to cut my teeth on a demo first. After all, it can't hurt, can it?

Haha, I was angrily denouncing the game on release day, I read a bunch of comments that it was good and bought it like 10 minutes later.

I like demos sometimes. They help if you don't know the preceding games. For example, I have never played left for dead or LFD2. I hear everyone raving about it, but to me it's just another FPS knock-off.

Now if he has played other TW games or ETW, then I agree it's meaningless for anyone to have a demo.

Ok seriously. Judging by what you just said, you really really really should buy it. I can understand if the whole business about Empire weighs in on your decision but it shouldn't. The effort put into the game is awesome. A better more vibrant map, much better siege maps that are as good as the scenario siege maps in ETW (but the AI still has trouble working things out...), each faction actually has its own units - no more Line Infantry + Red/White/Blue etc, far better CAI and diplomacy options etc.

I could go on and on but I'm sure you know all this. NTW is really the game that ETW should have been. You really should buy it. Seriously.

OK. I will buy it. Thanks guys.

Then again, I have been a TW junkie for many years. Others new to the series might like a demo just to see what's going on. Just saying. It can't take THAT much effort to know something up.

Yeah, yeah, OK, I'll buy it.

If you don't want the same game as ETW don't buy it. The "major" changes feel trivial at best. AI is somewhat better. The Campaigns are quite nice though. Its got some re-textured units, camera bouncing and Napoleon. Oh and some changes in the menus.

If you dont like it, you can always take it back. Due to a 'bad disc' error. Teehee.

    Buy it old chap!

I regret I bought ETW, not NTW.
