    NAPOLEON: TOTAL COMBAT v4.0
    BETA V
    The aim of this mod is, first of all, to make battles more of a spectacle, and a bit more ‘visceral.’ This is done through larger units, including larger artillery units, and a larger volume of fire.

    The second aim of the mod is campaign based, giving both the player and the AI the ability to raise larger and stronger armies almost from the get go. No longer will there be just one or two stacks per major nations during wars. The player and the AI, once the ‘mid-game’ has come, will be playing with multiple stacks, making for more numerous large-scale battles.

    Please note, the action does not start right away, but rather sensibly, especially once the several modified technologies are researched.
    You can no longer steam-roll the AI once you have defeated their primary army. Once the mid-game comes, expect constant, fierce resistance from the AI.

    NAPOLEON TOTAL COMBAT v4.0 FEATURE SET:

    Napoleon: Total Campaign:

    Death or Glory versions for 8 factions included
    European based campaign, most factions are playable
    More Town Slots added
    Starting Money Doubled
    Fleets sizes match Army sizes (20, 30 & 40 respectively)
    Includes Trafalgar Fleet Historical Fix


    Death or Glory is a special mode of play that allows for army stacks larger than the usual twenty units. You'll be able to command armies of up to 40 units!

    Death or Glory Campaigns also include the following changes:
    Unit Upkeep is reduced by 25% for 30 unit armies and reduced 50% for 40 unit armies.
    Unit Limits have been increased 50% for 30 unit armies and 100% for 40 unit armies
    Unit Cards for the HUD have been reduced in size to accommodate the increase in units.

    All the Major Factions, Campaigns and DLC are supported!


    Napoleon: Total Combat also features fully supported intergration with HusserITW's ever popular Napoleon: Total Factions!

    Use Total Factions to bring a minor nation to greatness by the power of Total Combat!

    Please Note:
    Napoleon: Total Factions (NTF) is NOT included in the NTC installation package and must be downloaded seperately if you do not already have it installed.
    NTF can be downloaded HERE!

    Also, NTF is not requirement for NTC but it does make for a really nice addition for playing the minor factions!

    The NTC Launcher not only manages the features already listed, it too is packed with options galore!


    BATTLE OPTIONS:

    BATTLE FUNDS:
    The will allow the player to adjust the amount of funds available for Custom Battles. 100% is equal to the NTW default values.

    BATTLE SPEED:
    This option allows players to toggle between normal units speeds in battles or reduced speeds.

    DEFENSES:
    This option allows players to enable deploy-able defenses for all battles.

    DEPLOYMENT ZONES:
    This option allows toggle the distance between deployment zones in battles.

    GRENADES:
    This allow players to make grenades for grenadiers available for battles.

    ROPES:
    This option allows players to toggle soldier’s ability to climb walls. When the Reduced Option is selected, the number of units that can climb wall is greatly reduced. Most ordinary troops cannot climbs when the reduced option is enabled. Only limited number of unit types will be able to climb walls.

    FIRE BY RANK:
    This option allows players to toggle the ability for Fire by Rank On/Off. Fire by Rank will be available for Line Infantry, Grenadiers and Elite troops.

    NAVAL MOD:
    This option allows players to toggle the Naval Mod on or off.

    STAKES:
    This allow players to make deploy-able stakes for light infantry available for battles.

    STRUCTURES:
    This option allows players to toggle between Normal, Stronger Structures or Disable Forts Battles.

    UNIT SIZES:
    This option allows players to toggle between Standard NTC land units size
    (ex. – typical Line Infantry = 400) or Reduced NTC land units sizes (Line Infantry = 240)

    CAMPAIGN OPTIONS:

    AI BONUS:
    This option allows players to increase or decrease the AI Campaign Bonuses.

    BUILD RATES:
    When enabled this option slightly decreases the build time for higher level buildings and roads.

    NAPOLEON'S CAMPAIGNS UNLOCKER:
    The handy tool allows the player to unlock any and all of the Napoleon’s Campaigns instantly. Napoleon’s Battles are unlocked too!

    OTTOMAN COMPATIBILTY:
    This option allows players to enable Ottoman Compatibility Mode for when playing as the Ottomans.
    When enabled, this option allows for a more “Ottoman friendly” selection of buildings.

    REBEL ARMIES:
    This option allows players to limit the type of units that can be recruited.

    SPIES:
    This option allows players to reduce the rate at which spies spawn or to disable the assignation ability.

    TECH RATES:
    This option allows players to toggle between normal or 20% Faster Research Rates.


    GRAPHIC OPTIONS:

    BACKPACKS:
    This option allows players to toggle soldier’s backpacks on or off.

    CAMERA:
    This option allows players to toggle between the three different views offered in NTW.

    CAMERA SHAKE:
    This option allows players to adjust the camera shake effect.

    This option allows players to toggle Campaign Borders Markers on/off.

    DUST:
    This option allows players to toggle the level of Dust in battles.

    EXPLOSIONS:
    This option allows players to toggle between normal and realistic explosions.

    FONTS:
    This option allows players to toggle the size of fonts in game.

    REALISM GRAPHICS:
    When the Realism Graphics option is enabled it removes many of the more game-ish graphical items. Things like floating flags, arrows and borders are removed thus increasing the realism and the challenge!

    RENDERS:
    This option allows players to toggle the enhanced video renders on/off.

    SMOKE:
    This option allows players to toggle the Enhanced Smoke Mod on/off.

    TRAILS:
    This option allows players to toggle trails for the enhanced smoke on/off.

    WEATHER:
    This option allows players to toggle campaign Battle Weather on/off.

    NAPOLEON: TOTAL COMBAT - NTC TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS:

    Before installing NTC, make sure you have removed any other mods. This especially important for added units. Right now, no user made units are compatible with NTC. NTC has it own tables for units so any added units will have to be adapted to NTC standards. Also there many other mods that could interfer with NTC. So make sure you have NTC full working without other mods before attempting to add anything else.

    You should also have STEAM verfiy the NTW files to make sure any previously installed mods have not overwritten any vanilla files>

    Make sure STEAM is running before starting NTC.

    NTC -MUST- be installed with administrative rights (i.e. - run as administrator)

    The NTC Launcher -MUST- also be run with administrative rights as well to insure smooth operation.

    You must NOT make video or other changes in game after launching NTC, if you do, it breaks the NTC settings force by the launcher.
    If you need to adjust your video setting do it in a vanilla game BEFORE playing with NTC enabled.
    NTC uses a special script setting that overrides the vanilla setting, trying to make chages will break this override.

    When reporting issues, please remember, information is everything!

    Just saying, "it crashes" really doesn't help much in tracking down where the problem lies.

    So the more details you provide, the better.

    What options did you change?

    What campaign where you playing?

    At what point exactly did it crash?

    And any other details that you can provide will help us fix it quicker.

    Common Issue: How to set user permissions on a game folder:

    Note: The following examples were done with empire total war but it is done the same way for other TW games.

    Also in the example below, 'hip63' is the user name, and 'BEAST' is the computer's name. These names will, of course, be different on your PC.

    And if, at anytime, windows asks for permission to do the following steps, tell it allow the changes.

    Step 1:
    To begin, browse to \Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ then find the empire total war folder and right click it. Now click "Properties" and then the "Security" tab.

    You should see something like this:



    If you already see your user name (the name you log onto your computer with) listed here, you can skip to Step 3

    If not procced with Step 2

    Step 2:
    Click the "Edit" button. You should see something like this:



    Now click the "Add" button. You should see something like this:


    In the area labeled "Enter the object names to select" enter your user name (the name you log onto your computer with) like so:


    Then click the "Check Names" button and you should see something like this:


    Now click the "OK" button and you should see something like this:


    Step 3:
    Now we need to edit your permissions to the folder to give your user name full control of the empire total war folder. Make sure that option is checked for your user name.

    You should see something like this:


    Now click the "Apply" button and the "OK" button.

    You should see something like this:


    Click the "OK" button.


    A REBOOT OF YOUR COMPUTER IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AT THIS POINT!

    Try reinstalling and playing the mod with these changes.

    Lastly, NTC will NOT work well with 'illict' copies of the game. Please don't tell me it's a "boxed copy". All legal copies of NTW come with steam, period. No exceptions! The retail discs sold in stores come with steam too. (I know because that's how I purchased ETW) So again, don't tell me that you have a "boxed" copy that came without steam, that's utter nonsense!

    AND PLEASE DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT ASKING ME FOR HELP WITH PIRATED COPIES!

    IF YOU ARE USING A PIRATED COPY OF THE GAME, THIS MOD WILL NOT WORK WITH IT SO QUIT ASKING FOR HELP!!!!
    Honestly, you're making the mod look bad by posting issues that have NOTHING to do with the mod. I don't know why it doesn't work with pirated copies nor do I care. I'll not be wasting my time with pirated copies. So if you are pirating the game, hit the road, get out and go away!

    This sounds sweet! Just the thing I've been waiting for I'll download and test right away, see if it does it for me. I thought the battles in NTW was a little meager when I've been spoiled with DarthMod in ETW. And I didn't want to increase the unit sizes myself in the preferences.script since there was no apparent way to scale-up the artillery along with it.

    EDIT: Although I think the NTW maps are a tad too small for so many units, but maybe it's a small price to pay ^^ at least I think the ETW maps feels bigger and more suitable for such large units.

    Yes, I guess that's true. I hope they release modding tools for this game. It's tiresome to march your line infantry into good positions as it is and actually get there before the enemy comes storming at them anyway, it's a good mod. I liked it.

    So is this file a MM pack... i do not use MM untill one come out that was like Empire... is it possible to upload a patch pack as well as alot of people do not use the MM... it seems a very interesting mod.

    tried your mod but i have no sound whenever i use your mod, did you do anything with any kind of sound files?
    i made sure to remove all other mods and i tested again and its definitely your mod, if i dont use the user.script with ONLY your mod, sound plays fine, but if i use the script file then i get no sound at all, only the beginning movie plays sound......anyone else run into this?

    I dont know if it has anything to do with this mod, but when I installed it the terrain started behaving weird :S when I uninstalled it it went back to normal again. It seemed like the terrain was raised whenever the camera went far away enough, and when you scroll the camera back... the terrain lowers back to normal again. Almost looks like waves. Hmph. Probably just some weird graphics glitch, but I thought you should know. Didn't notice this at first, but now I did.

    The mod is great, but I dont think that is historical that the line infantry shoot like skirmishers. Can you implement the fire by rank ability? For example you can make something like that - when the fire and advance tech is researched all your elite units and grenadiers recieve the fire by rank tech (just like Radious did in his mod).

    It is not. Historically speaking, only the first two ranks would fire simultaneously, essentially the first two ranks of infantry formations would just blaze away, but they would not fire by rank, and would kneel. Here is a link to source.

    Also, Fire by Rank comes with its own problems, namely having to wait for the entire formation to be formed up before they fire, and have to wait for the entire formation to reload before they fire, that was one of my big complaints about empire, and it really hurt the AI. Also, that is simply not historical as the formations at the time would just blaze away at each other.

    So having all the ranks fire is sort of a 'compromise,' it all just 'looks' better than just having the whole formation stand there while the other guys do nothing and it allows the formations to fire before they are all formed up and reloaded.

    Thank you for the answer but I have another concern about that fire drill. My computer is pretty powerful and I have always played on ultra settings with AA and AF on ultra (even with units multiplayer x2). And when I tried your mod with a custom battle of almost only line infantry (about 13 000 man) it was ok and the fps were perfect. But when they started firing at each other I cant call it exactly low fps because the camera movement was fine, but there is some kind of lag of the units movements and of the bullets tracers. If you have some time you could try custom battle similar to that I tried, because I think the problem is from the skirmish firing drill.
    PS I know that you are making this mod for your own use and you are just sharing your work with us, but it is the best mod that has came out for the moment and the only thing I am concerned about is this lag during the fire

    Hmm, one suggestion, have you tried lowering particles from ultra to high?

    Regardless, I will take your suggestion into consideration and try testing other methods, but I want to keep the battles as visceral as possible, and having only one rank fire is not that visceral.

    Nevertheless, you make a very valid point, and if you're having trouble I am sure others are as well, so I will began testing other means today, and if I find a way to keep the battles harsh without the possibility for lag, I will do so.

    I did not touch the sound files, frankly I don't know how to touch the sound files, but I will look into this. Do you play with any sound mods? After disabling sound mods your sound settings may have reversed to something not compatible with your system. Please check your settings 'after' disabling whatever sound mods you were playing with. Is anyone else having this problem?

    I am glad to be able to help you as much as I could I have some sort of suggestion. You can make that skirmish firing drill (lets call it platoon firing) only for the elite units and grenadiers. That way less of the units will use it and so there won't be any lag.

    I noticed you increased muskets to 110, is this standard line? Were lights given an increase to compensate?

    Ok thanks buddy, gonna give this a go tonight...will this work with the ultimate sound mod? I know there is not MM yet, so I don't remember all the pack files stuff and what works with what.

    i will have to give this mod a try. any chance on creating a light version with the smaller amount of troops? my home PC will run it fine but my work laptop might struggle hehe. either way I will give it a go as your combat and campaign changes sounds great!!!
