Default A question about improving performance

    My PC is the following:
    Core 2 Due E4500 @ 2.2GHz
    GeForce 9800GT (1GB)
    2GB RAM

My question is, will adding more RAM would help improve loading times?
    I'm using windows 7
and... more RAM will not effect FPS will it?

Install win 7 as 64 bit and 2 more gigs of ram would help but would still be bottlenecked by your cpu. It is low end for this game.

will adding 1GB for 32-bit help too?

It wouldnt help ingame performace though it might improve some framerate loss when scrolling around and such. The only noticable improvement will be faster loading times, always worth it to add more ram. I would also suggest getting 2gig x2 of the same type as it will make the two sticks run at double the speed instead of adding 2gb+1gb.

You are going to struggle with this CPU. I have a core2duo 2.13GHz and just couldn't make it perform in its stock state. Also bought a 9800GT which is a good grunty GPU but still no dice for me. In the end it was looking like I'd have to upgrade the CPU so I took a gamble and clocked it up to 2.8GHz, now works fine. Running XP with 2GB RAM and the 9800GT, really smooth, no problems (but it generates some heat!!!).

Actually the game run smoothly with everything maxed but SSAO.
I think I will try to overclock too.

    Right now I have 1GB x2,
and I want to had only 1GB of RAM.
If I want to add 2 I should get 2GB in one piece?

depends on your motherboard, you have to see how many ram slots there are, if there is 2, buy a 1gb X 2

there are 4. 2 are used.

is the placement of them change anything?
because I got it with one in each of them (there are 2 ram slots * 2)

yes the placement of the ram changes performance and may cause bsods. The main concern for you now, since the amount of ram is established it to find a similar ram to the ones you have, since they have to have the same CL and speed.

my advice would to be simply buy 4g (1gb X4) since this could avoid headaches, and DDR2 ram is cheap nowadays.

okay I thought it was cheaper: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144239

    its 100 bucks

it doesn't matter, here 1GB ram cost 30$.
so I can just move the two RAMs to the same side and put another type on the other?

turn off picture in picture feature in the scripts file. This prevents random slow downs. See my thread.

generally the cards have a color ''diagram'' the slots have different colors, and so you have to use the slots with the same colors. If they're not colored, use the other ones. You have to know everything about that ram! since putting different rams in the same system only leads to trouble!

jimmy44, are the slowdowns happent only when the picture is showed up?

I have 2 orange slots and 2 green.
By moving the RAM from the green, which is the same as the other one, to the orange side,
will I be able to put any RAM I want in the green slots?
what will happen if I will mix RAMs?

Do not put 3 sticks of RAM in as they will not run dual channel, either use 2 or 4 sticks.

Just get another 2 x 1GB sticks and throw em in, you will only be able to use 3.25GB of it in 32-bit but thats better than 2GB and will run in dual channel

Also, your CPU is slow, you need to OC it or upgrade - preferably to a quadcore, Q6600 are dirt cheap these days, but the Q6600 is only 2.4 so a small OC will go along way.

you have to put the same ram, in the same slots

now the first thing your going to tell me are those infos that I'm going to ask

What is the speed of the ram?

What is the CL of the ram? for info on what is this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAS_latency

here are the programs to see those things
