Hi guys. Didn't know there was a bioware forum here. Figured I would throw my 2 cents in.
I didn't really follow ToR until shortly before launch when I was able to get into the beta. After the beta I was hooked. Fantastic gameplay and fun storyline. Seemed like the MMO we were all waiting for. I told all my MMO playing friends about it and for a good 2-3 weeks after launch I had a blast.
Fast forward to now and I don't know anyone who stills plays it. The game is super solid from level 1-30 or so, but after that I just found that the fun factor left the game and story quests got further and further apart filled with your generic/lame MMO quests. The leveling went from a fun, fast paced jog so to speak to walking very slow on a treadmill at full incline. I couldn't even stay interested enough to get to 50.
Overall I did have a good time for a bit and I would recommend anyone interested in Star Wars or RPG's to try it. I got my moneys worth anyway from the month I played. Not sure how the game is going to do. I haven't seen so many people bail on an MMO so quickly.

not with all the science fiction crap that Blizzard seems to throw into WoW... its a bit of everything because they made such a mess of the lore..
Besides, it was never intended to be a WoW killer.. thats what players make from it.
Exactly. BW made it because they wanted to have a better way to expand upon the Kotor era - it was never meant to be a way to break into the MMO market to kill WoW. Saying that, they still managed to get closer than any MMO before, to seriously compete with WoW.

I did and have no problem with it whatsoever.
What about the way they just wrote off every other character by mentioning them all in a paragraph? The way the killed off the Exile? (who was not even their character) Or the fact that is was so obviously just a way to end the KoTOR story and tie it into the MMO? To even find out Revan's story you now have to play the game. Kinda lame IMO.
Well the TOR story is so crappy that you cant really call it cannon. Would be too unclear who the progationist would be. The entire game feels like a cartoon anyways with its doomsday weapons on every planet and cartoonish villains everywhere. They ought to hire some actual writers for it.
And to me the way I played KOTOR remains the way Revan is. They shouldnt have tampered with such an experience, or they shouldnt have made Revan playable.
They shouldn't have included Revan in the storyline at all, as they really should have never made a "canon" version of a character with so many different paths. Really made zero sense. If they were going to do what they did to the character, they should have just killed him off rather than saying "We raped KoTOR, and now you have to see his story "conclude" in the MMO"
It was just so obviously done just for the money that it's sickening.
At the risk of sounding arrogant, I dare say I could write better stories for TOR than whoever they hired to do that.
Because as we all know, companies spin the story of video games in a certain way so as to get the best story, not the best sales.
I don't really think that the story of TOR is really helping sales much, simply the presence of a fully voiced story being there in an MMO is the selling point, not the story itself.
Considering for a MMO the stories(there are 8 of them after all) are far above what other MMOs have to offer, it does matter.
Even tho Guild wars 2 looks like they will give SWTOR a run for their money in terms of stories.
Oh yes there is no comparison, GW2 you dont even chose your story there is a generic one for each race ( and has less actual races then swtor) Story wise in a MMO there isnt better then swtor currently.
I heard interesting things about secret world and story, but the game is very incomplete, buggy and i heard overall bad things. But that kind of feedback isnt new to MMOs this days, even about GW2 beta were people that complain like crazy, because well GW2 isnt perfect either.
You just cant compare to single players games, off course a single player game story will be much more focused and detailed and the player will feel the center of it all. MMO its diferent.
I still think SWTOR needs alot of work in new features mostly.
That said i felt the story of the imperial agent a very good suprise, even a MMO. The rest allthough not being bad, is generic. I just wished they didnt removed all those choices in beta. I also wished they listen less to the fans, did their own thing for instance.
Actually you do choose, atleast based on the beta.
I have tried two charr characters from different legions and the story was different. Maybe after the story becomes the same for all 3 of the legions past where the beta ends but no idea. In the beta however you can choose.
There might be a good story hidden in TSW but the beta didn't give a hint at all and they went about it in the worst possible way you can do to tell a story. Even Age of Conan in all it's failures did better.
Again sometimes you do get to choose.
Well the major problem of TOR's stories might be that the player is the center of it all, the only competent person pretty much. And pretty much from the start as well, allowing for little build up.
To me it just feels like a parody of previous Bioware games since its always been like this, they seem to have made it 10 times worse in this game.
