When I launch the game via steam it says Preparing to launch Napoleon Total War but the window would just open and close all the time without the game opening.
How can I correct this(Empire does the same thing)

Try a different server.
No it does nothing even if I go online so I don't think it's a connection problem, Empire hasn't opened for about a month bu I though maybe it was one of the many bug that there is on the game.
no its a steam problem, it had updated yesterday for me.. now take a look at the troubleshoot thread on how to change the servers

I don't see how it can help to change server, I,ve istalled it perfectly and Empire hasn't worked for about 1 month while demo of other games just works fine.
I say it because I had to change servers for Empire and its last "update".
oh ok but do you have by any chance an idea on how to resolve this issue?
The only way I know. If I have trouble with one server, I start down the list until I find one that works. It's Steam and at times like this not having enough servers dedicated to this.
But what has it said to you concerning the server issue?
I've been around servers and modems since sites only had bulletin boards and we had 14.4 kb modems. The programs and games would come including Microsoft with bulletin board numbers for updates and service issues. Many game companies did, too. Sierra-On_line was one. They also published them in computer magazines like internet addresses nowadays. When that box hit a certain number they added a phone line. Nowadays they add sites. If one was busy, you dialed the next one. The idea hasn't changed in over twenty years. Now, it's internet protocol instead of the phone book.
ooppsss daisies!
Let me be straight with you, Irishron is one of the best guys on this forum, he knows what hes talking about, he has been around pc before I was born, hell before there was a p in pc. He knows hes stuff. Now when you ask something we give you an answer, the answer was to change servers. Why haven't you did this already?
You're asking something because you don't know. The answer comes, you test the answer, worked? ok! didn't? let's try again!
got it?

But wouldn't the server problem affect all of the content on Steam not only the Creative Assembly's product?
Edit: And wouldn't goin offline solve the problem of launching the game if it was installed properly before? If it change nothing why?

Sites like Steam that have everything on servers can dedicate x amount of servers and ports to a certain game and whether for updating or other uses. The software is built that way.
One player at .com ran verify game cache five times before the thing finally found the file causing the crashes.
