If you try cutting a channel from the ocean, let it fill up with water. If you block off the channel where it links to the ocean the channel will slowly drain. This dam worked the same way.
I didn't think of waiting . I found the sponge block to work way better anyway. It absorbs all water in a huge 25 cubic foot area.

    Press "save" then "Save file"
    Dont press any empty slots.
Btw are there any risks or does it suck up a lot of bandwidth to run a server? otherwise I guess I might try setting one up.

That is beautiful Ferrets. You should build a castle under that cliff face

Wow...That looks incredible. You should explore that cave over yonder, see what might be in it.

Looks like a throne to me. I think I shall give this a go, although it does look very lonely. It would be nice having a large fortress with a lot of people living in it.

It's a bloody throne! I have already built a chapel.

Jom, it is lonely. I wouldn't recommend playing it with nobody else in the house.

So I have started my shelter from the monsters.

The first thing I did, following Ferrets' advice, was to break up some of my shelter before building steps up to the roof so I can see what's going on in safety:

As I was busy messing around, night fell quickly and soon monsters started to gather and hunger for my blood. Luckily I was out of their reach and I had blocked up the door:

Recognising the need for superior tools, I set up a workbench on the inside of my shelter. To the left is the blocked up door:

Here's another shot of the inside:

I've been burrowing away under the shelter and have found a cavern! Who knows what dangers lurk inside?
