Thread: My disc is convinced that Medieval II doesn't exist?

When I try to install, it only installs the Kingdoms submods (Americas, Britannia etc) but won't install the actual Medieval II game... if I uncheck all the Kingdoms boxes it just creates a file in C:\Program Files\ called SEGA, then a subfile called Medieval II Total War (like it should) but then only puts a Readme and EULA in it... anybody know what to do?

Uninstall the game starting with Kingdoms campaigns.

If already done so, delete the Sega folders in program files and appdata. Run a registray cleaner. Reboot.

    Now, try to install.

I've already deleted SEGA folder in Program Files.. where's appdata, and what's a registray cleaner? Like CCleaner?

If you are using Vista or Win7, you have a appdata folder. It is hidden. In folderotions, you have to unhide all hidden and system files and folders. You don't get rid of it, you can't reinstall.

Registray cleaner like ccleaner, eusing free registry cleaner, and others.

I'm on XP, so I'll just run CCleaner then reboot.

Edit: It didn't work, it still doesn't install the main game properly...

It didn't work.. it still merely installs the Readme and the EULA when told to install the main game. What can I do now?

You still have something someplace. Use regedit and be careful.

I'm searching for "medieval II total war" atm, I'll delete anything that regedit finds under that name?

Edit: Deleted all values containing it except one, to which regedit says "Unable to delete all specified values". The undeletable file is named <(Default)>, is Type <REG_SZ> and has Data <(value not set)>.

Edit II: Attempted to install with the default value still there, didn't work.

Did you try to delete the ones on the right side one at a time? Sometimes I've had to do that before I could delete the rest.

I managed to delete them all, but regedit is still finding more entries with "medieval ii total war" in them, although it seems to find different ones every time I search... oh no, it says there aren't any now, brilliant I'll try to install again now...

    Edit: It worked!! Thanks
