There will be no bulgarian crossbowmen. After deep reasurch Kavhan Isbul (or it was Nike ) found that crossbows werent popular in the bulgarian army.Ofcourse there were some crossbowmen but their number werent so big.About bulgarian proniari - I really dont know.

And how they reach such decision. If afther year bulgarian crossbows are found in some excavations
what will do then ?There is nothing bad in adding some elite of them if Bulgaria survived the period 1390-1430.

As I've said before, there already are such findings, from the 1340s and onwards. The thing is that they're not too many, which would indicate they weren't the most popular ranged weapon (not as much as the bow, at least), although they did exist. It's a matter of the team's decision whether they want to include them or not - they have a justification for it, but not an obligation.

Indeed, the peasants are my favourites as well. I'm thinking to either edit their stats (once the mod is out) and use only them or just play an Ivailo scenario for more challenge.

This weeked I read a book called "The Golden Horde and the bulgarians".Acording to it the Ivailo troops werent just pleasants-they were from border region(Varna, Shumen, Preslav ...) so they knew how to use weapons (border guards) .So this wasnt pleasant rebelion. Sorry Nike - no overpowered pleasants .

Except that Shumen, Preslav and Varna were not border regions (in the best case, only Varna could potentially be considered a border region, though it's not one that would require an akritas-type border-guard). Though they're half-right, in the sense that Ivailo's forces quickly gained professional troops from the nobles that joined him and even part of the tsar's army which changed to his sight just before the battle.

In Ivailo's time there was Byzantion-Tatar alliance and Bulgaria lost the south-east ports and cities-like Messembria and Sozopol.Thats why when Ivailo start his rebelion Varna-north seaside city was border region.I want to edit myself-it was not Shumen, but Provadia. But Im sure that Preslav,Varna and Provadia were border regions.Read the book I presented if you dont believe.

Provadia is a quite different thing. Actually, Ovech (the medieval name of Provadia) is believed to have been the fortress of Ivailo, according to one later folk-song about him (which is used as support that he was a part of the lower military aristocracy). Though both are still rather far from the border (Mesembria), not to mention about Preslav. It's a bit like saying that Lovech is on the border with Romania, which it is clearly not.

Why do you think that the byz didnt control the area around mesebria too.And from Lovech to Dunab is around 60-80 km straight line.

They did control Mesembria and that's where the border was. Quite some distance from Varna and Provadia though, not to mention about Preslav.
