I have failed thee utterly. Our army was destroyed in the North. It seems all went against us. Our position was excellent, and our moral high, yet Providence spoiled our bowstrings and we were forced to fight the Scots on their own terms. I pray that I can redeem this failure. Right now, I am riding to Nottingham to gather what troops I can before I head north once more to help Baron Stepan hold York.

'Northumbria wasn't your fault, considering the circumstances reacently that we have only lost in the north is not bad. No i asked you here because i wished to express my gratitude for the successful defense of Ireland. I am going to reward you with the Order of the Garter for it.'

'Carl, I trust you are well? I have been thinking over Normandy, and of course your own loss of lands.

Things are very bad for England at the moment, we will recover, but it won't be straight away that we'll be able to head across the channel and recover our lands.

This I am well aware leaves you landless. I have it in mind to grant you some lands here in England, of course should, when, we retake our French possessions you will have both your new lands and Calais. How does this sound?'
