I've yet to redo Numidian cavalry....one of the last remaining bits of modelling work to be done. There are two post-Marian Spanish cavalry Alae: Ala IV Hispanorvm Campagonvm Eqvestrvs and Ala I AstvrvmDidn't see Spanish cavalry or Numidian allied cavalry but i may have scrolled down to fast

Good question. There are a number of depictions of armoured cataphract units looking just like this in some of the books and outside of the Hippica Gymnasia context. The helmets they are wearing are in fact Weiler type helmets (1st century AD auxiliary cavalry helmets), but with added masks, rather than sports helmets.
The draco bearers are wearing "sports" helmets (like the Ribchester one below), but from my understanding, there's no evidence to point to an officer not wearing something like this:
