Will Napoleon be released with Steam in the same way as Empire?
I truly truly hope that it is not because if it is I will not buy it I'm afraid

Yes it has Steam...
Shoot coward! You are only going to kill a man!
oh noes! the full on recurring activation, no choice, no rights no resell version of steam or just the once only online registration steam?
I'm grasping at straws now
Same as ETW...

Oh bugger
I guess I'll just leave it then, Thanx for the replies though much appreciated
so what is ur problem with having steam?
CA dont know how to use it?
In games made by companies like Valve they listen to the customers before patching things that dont need to be patched, 1.3s AI or the dumb ass naval changes...

If I answer that here it will just start another anti-steam rant which I'm sure nobody really wants, besides there has been many other posts about the pros and cons of Steam elsewhere
I you either love it or hate it, a bit like Marmite, for me the cons far out weigh the pros.
Figure I posted a thread but since you have this thread opened might as well use it.

will ship with Steamworks support at retail and online, including among other features, Achievements, Matchmaking, Leaderboards, Stats, and Cloud. Aliens vs. Predator will ship on Steam and at retail in mid-February. Napoleon: Total War will ship on Steam and at retail in late February.

Yep, it's Steam. CA/SEGA seem to think Steam is the best option to push PDLC and prevent piracy.
The extra development time will allow us to finalize and polish Empire, making it the most accomplished and epic of the Total War series." said Kieran Brigden, Studio Communications Manager at The Creative Assembly. "There is a great deal of anticipation around Empire: Total War and we want to ensure that it is the benchmark for strategy games upon its release.
Meh, whatever.
Never had any issues with playing MP on STEAM anyways. Best examples would be TF and L4D.

I think that Steam is a huge step up from GameSpy. GameSpy is aweful: matches keep crashing and dying during and even before you start them. Steam is reliable and a good way forward for Total War Multiplayer. They just have to fix up some of the communications whilst in-game (which it looks as if they have from the NTW previews) and it'll be fine.

VAC is better than Spunkbuster or Lamespy...

They use Steam to prevent piracy for a couple of days, two I guess.
STEAM has it's benefits and draw-backs, for me, the benefits eliminates the draw-backs.
nothing like a convenient distribution system and diverse payment options to push those pdlcs on the costumer.
Always trying harder to help you make an informed decision.
Nobody is forcing you to buy them.
See them as the extra equipment for a car, you don't need them, but you may want to have them.
What is wrong with DLCs? - They are not essential for gameplay or immersion! - They are optional.
