Thread: Empire Troubleshooting Thread

You are not alone Osprey. This is identical to me. TAR screwed my game, and now I cannot load vanilla, or even NTW. I've deleted/uninstalled all modfolders I can see. I'm in the midst of a full Steam uninstall, reinstall and ETW reinstall per Irishron's suggestions but as of now getting nowhere. I've completely cleaned the register as well. I am going to go back in tonight and see if there are hidden files not killed, but with Vista it is a bugger.
Irishron:can you help with seeing hidden folders please? Do I need to run as administrator to do that?

You do need to be logged in as Administrator.
I have the UAC disabled before I installed any games. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...trol-on-or-off
    I also did this. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=397636
For finding hidden files and folders, in the box above the Start button, type Folder Options. Under the view tab, iirc, about half way down move the dot down to unhide all files and folders. Click okay and you should be good.

Thanks to the kind assistance of Irishron:success! Managed to launch a new install of ETW last night. A dram for you sir!
For the benefit of Osprey/garythomas on this thread and others- this looks like a common problem with the TAR beta seeming to corrupt or cause conflict; Follow Irishron's guidance. You are going to need to do a full uninstall from Steam library. Then you will need to wipe all traces of ETW from your system and all mods. The bugger is the appdata files;they are hidden on vista and you need to get at them and delete per his guidance above. Tis a bore and goodbye savegames but the only way to get it back.
    Persevere!

    1. When was the last time you ran Windows Update and installed all software updates?
    2. Have you tried installing directx 9.0c, C++ 2005 SP1, and .Net 4 manually?

    Code:
DxDiag Previously: Crashed in system information (stage 4)
says Windows has some serious driver issues that need to be rectified.

    Hello,

I have a problem with CTDs that occur during battle, typically near the end or when at least 15mins have passed. The game's overall performance is very good; I've read about the memory adress thing but there is no slowdown whatsoever before the crashes occur, and it's never on the campaign map.

I use DMUC, but I remember this kind of crash from vanilla, it's only more frequent now. I'm not sure where to start, any suggestions?

    Posting your dxdiag would help.

I'm not sure which parts you need, I've uploaded the whole thing here: http://www.2shared.com/document/saiqi8Wb/DxDiag.html

Does it tell you anything useful? ;-)

4 gig of ram, 32 bit OS = have you tried this? http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=238484
Have you tried Game Booster by www.iobit.com?

I've done the memory thing and also tuned down the visuals somewhat, the last few battles went fine. The rest remains to be seen, but thanks so far =)

    Hi

My ACW campaign keeps crashing, even though I start a new one.

    Specs
    CPU: Intel Core2 Q9300 Quad (2,5 GHz)
    GFX: XFX 5670 (1 GB)
    RAM: 4GB (DDR2, PC6400 - 800MHz)
    Win7 32-bit

The crash dump file say "the thread tried to read or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access"

I have increased userva and gone back to 10.2 drivers to try and solve this problem but it is very persistant.

    Can someone please help?

No. But I will ask there aswell.

Could installing Empire Total War into program files instead of program files (x86) on my 32-bit OS cause problems?

My question would be could youplay a campaign without prblems before installing the mod?

To answer this question, not to me as I have three 32bit games installed in other the Program Files (x86) and they work fine.

Ok I want to first thanks all that put work on here for helping us knuckle-heads out I just want to say this is what help me getting mine to work...

ETW suddenly shuts down in the begining, I don't get to the menu screen. This can be solved by a simple reinstall. Now doing it the right way.

1- you will need to donwload ccleaner (www.ccleaner.com)
2- uninstall the game and steam, standard procedure.
    3- reboot
4- go to the %appdata% ( put this in the search) and delete the creative assembly folder and the steam folder. (remember to enable hidden files and folders)
5- use ccleaner to clean up the registry, and while doing that clean up the pc as well.
    6-reboot
    7- install ETW and steam.

This simple thing should solve a lot of your problems.
Thanks again I have been working on this for 3 days before I got the ideal of coming on here to find help but oh well live and learn

    Thanks all...

What is High-lighted in red is what helped me out big time
I KNOW MY NAME IS supposed TO BE MISPELLED
Please leave your name if you give me rep, so I can rep you back thanks

    With my Creative titanium X-Fi

I've found my ETW is a lot more stable since:

let the game set the sound level and
download and install new beta drivers:
    http://support.creative.com/download...wnloadId=11966
    (for win7 64-bit)
