at the risk of sounding stupid you say that pre reform archer recruitment is available for the romans but i cant find where they are recruitable from help
ok i think i found them by looking through the EDB file but just want to double check with you.
have you made it so that they are only recruitable in the gallic regions
The problem with the archers was not an edb problem, but an edu ownership issue.

Can you explain what that means? Does it mean it is a problem with one of my files, not the ones I downloaded?
If you look in the EDU (export_descr_units.txt) each entry has an ownership line. If you had looked at the 1.6 version of the file, the barbarian mercenary archers did not have roman ownership, which means that any recruitment line in EDB (export_descr_buildings.txt) gets ignored. RS1.6a replaces both the EDB (for the other recruitment problems) and EDU files, so I'm not sure what you mean by your files as opposed to the ones downloaded.

I'm not sure what I do to get the Roman Archers. Are they the same as the Mercenary Barbarian Archers available in those cities just south of the Alps, or are they different units available in the Italian peninsula? I had the Barbarian Archers in 1.6, but in 1.6a you said it added Roman Archers. I am unable to find where they are recruited from.
Sigh, no they're the same one, so one of the "fixes" actually doesn't do anything significant, but oh well. I don't know what I was thinking but I didn't see them recruitable in 1.6 so "fixed" it.

HOORAY!!! Thanks so much, Squid!
--Yeah, I'll confirm that 1.6a doesn't have the merc barbarian archers available for Rome (pre reforms) in the cisalpine area. I do remember it was a pretty quick fix, though. I'll dig back through some old recruitment posts and paste the info here.

The Best Computer is Your Computer!
wow even the historical battles worked perfectly!
You're incorrect, I tested and I actually did fix an actual error, when I tested on 1.6 yesterday it must not have been a clean 1.6 install (actually I'm pretty sure it has parts of 1.6a in it as it was my test install and I likely didn't reset it).
Anyways on 1.6 I grabbed Patavium and process_cq'd my way to catapult range and seige engineer and the merc archers were not available, so the error was an actual error. I did the same thing on 1.6a and the merc archers were present for both the catapult range and seige engineer.
I feel better, that was an actual error I fixed, not a wasted change.

Has the environmental issue of the trees being everywhere even when not visible been addressed in 1.6a? Or is that being addressed in RS 2?

You didn't follow the installation instructions properly. Re-install and follow them to the letter.

oh its because my RTW is 1.5, but you dont offer a download for 1.5. Everytime i try to download 1.6 it just says "cannot locate RTWBI.EXE" and closes
The BI1.6 patch is only for BI, which the installation instructions specify. Don't get confused between RS1.6 and the BI1.6 patch. You need the BI1.6 patch only if you have BI installed and it isn't patched to 1.6.
