Anyway to cut down on the lag?

Ok, first of all I'll say this, I'm aware that my chip set isn't up to par with MTW2.
All I want to know is if there is a way I can cut down on what MTW2 needs to run, I don't care if I have to take the fancy backgrounds on the battle map and make 'em a gray wall.

I'm just looking for a way to make it so that battles run alright, I've already set every video setting as low as it gets and I've unit sizes on small.

So is there something I can do in the game or a program I can use to make up for the chip set?

Looks like it may help but only with sieges, the lag is in every battle.

Turn off all the eyecandy, small units, and after that, there is no help.
