Well i actually did it with the layer mask and added it like you did but for some reason it didn't come true i will post the XCF file so you can take a look at it.

hey hesus, i've just had a look (hope you don't mind) but you need to do it on the layers called

kopie plasma zonder mozaiek kopiëren#1
Geplakte laag
kopie plasma zonder mozaiek kopiëren
kopie plasma zonder mozaiek,

then it will work

So i need to do the layer mask and the colour thing on those 4 layers as well?

no you should be able to do it by just using 2 layer masks. see the picture above step 6

I used two layer masks but it's not showing.

you duplicated the layers with layer masks, so the transparent bit is simply showing the copy of the layer (which thus looks like you haven't bothered) thats why i said those 4 layers

I just redid the thing and i didn't copy the layer mask, i added it like described in part 5. After finishing the layer mask i duplicated it one time like said in step 5. I didn't post the new result jet because nothing changed.

After that i duplicated the new layer and brought it above the original base plasma layer.

I think i might just start over again.

So i need to apply the layer mask on the duplicated layer of the original plasma layer? But i am not able to apply it i am only able to add a new layer to the "duplicated" original plasma layer.

I think I got the layer mask idea, but could never quite get it so that only the corners were snipped off a bit.

Layer masks are incredibly useful. they are worth spending time learning how to use.

Maybe you could do a tutorial on those layer masks in the graphics workshop.
