Rome: Total War Battle Issue

Hey when i play a battle in Rome campaign, for example against another big army, i put my men in a Phalanx defensive circle to defend my general. But the opponent doesn't attack! They stand still aswell as me! What do i do to make them attack me? Im suspecting it to be an error or something, maybe disabling the opponent units when in battle... someone plz help!

You can always try to move closer to them - sometimes this will prompt them to attack. I'd suggest that you learn from offensive manouvers and attack them anyway - don't rely on being in the defensive all the time.
