Save strategies: How often, how much, & why

The real question is "When do you reload?"

I save so I don't have to replay a full turn if the game crashes or the AI gets hung up in a siege.

I Load only once a day, from my last save. If I screw up, too bad, take my lumps and move on. The main problem I have is the game is way too easy, can't see reloading if something goes wrong.

I save quite often when I'm playing as I hate losing stuff I've done and having to redo it when the game crashes/power goes out/cat runs across the keyboard and just happens to press alt+ctrl+del at the same time.

But I hardly ever reload. If something bad happens, or something goes wrong, well that's all part of the game for me.

i save like once, Right before i leave the game, some times before a great battle i really wanna win and thats about it, i figure if i save before every battle etc etc the game will lose its fun becuase i can just reload to there and do something else to win, other then that auto-save is the way to go.

I must say I save more often after the Siege Bug in RR/RC, other than that I mostly save before I quit and every couple of hours I press Ctr-S just in case something happens.

I hate redoing stuff but I'm mostly lousy at Saving, luckily after ironing out the siege bug the game has only crashed once during the 120 turns I've played so far.

I save before battles, because I fear the game might crash. Especially other mods, less stable than SS, often crash during battles.
Oh and of course I save when I quit, but I don't use it to go back. If I loose something, I lost it. I mean: in RL you can't go back either, aye?

I do exactly the same I agree... here, as in RL what is done, is done. While playing I'm simulating an alternative RL,in the medieval times, so I try to respect that rule, to max challenge, and realism!. Crashes are the only reason 4me to save b4 big battles. beating the cpu in this game is easiest if you "cheat" with saving, and easy games = not fun.

While i'm here i might as well awnser though: I save before win-all or lose-all battles other than that i rely on the autosave to keep me safe from crashes. No saving before every battle or merchant takeover or anything like that.

I save all the time :-) like several times a turn. However they are quick saves.

if it is just SS then hardly ever as it is nice and stable and i like to play with some risk involved....just to get the adrenaline pumping...

...ETW, as often as possible for reasons we are all familiar with no doubt.

I do a hard save every 5-10 turns and before major battles (full slot armies) and rely on the autosave to fix any/all mistakes.

Ahhhhh but auto save saves the comming turn not the turn one is ending. Soooooooooooooooooooo if ya don't do a mandatory END TURN SAVE then you risk losing your stuff.

Since I play/observe the board and micromanage like a fiend there's NO way that I'm prepared to risk that. Now that's just me. I apploud and respect all you save daredevil's out there that only save before titanic/ammagedon like clashes...

Personally, I'm very much of a savegame-machine. I make normal saves at the start and end of every turn (I usually keep these permanently) plus before and after battles. I also do quicksave before and after every character mission and moves on the campaign map.
Seriously, I think I'm quite worthy of a Paranoid trait...

Yep, I'm kinda perfectionist when playing Total War games. I remember, I beat RTW (twice) and RTW:BI without losing even a single a battle. Reaching this was a real pain at times, but in the end when I looked at the statistics I knew it was worth the effort!

Before every turn ends, I save the game, because I fear my computer will shutdown by itself due to this intense heat in Portugal. Happened to me plenty of times this summer

I usually save something like this-

Genoa Late- every 10 turns or so save so if get corrupt have something relatively current to return to and need to say faction and era for reminder if I go back to play it later because I'll often get bored a campaign and start new but then miss it after a few days and go back
Genoa Turn- at end of every turn and beginning of every turn
Genoa Battle- just before big battles... most frustrating for me has been crashes on exiting a battle it took 45 minutes to fight
