Hi guys!
I'm new here...I just bought the game today and I cant get it to work! I tried buying it on Steam...worst mistake ever! It toook it FOREVER to download (Kindoms still isnt finished downloading!!!) But once it said it was 100% downloaded it tried to play it and it wouldnt work! It game me an error message with the title "CA_LIBS" and instead of telling me what the error was, it just shows a yellow yeild sign with an explamation point in it. So I tried to restart my computer thinging maybe it would work then...then it came up and said that the game was "updating" and its still taking foooorever! I didnt want to wait so I went ahead and went to Best Buy and bought the game off the shelf with the expansion.
I came home and downloaded it with no problems. But again, I cannot play the game. When I put in the disk, it come up and I get the title screen where I can choose to play the American campaign, British, and the others, but where it says "Play Medieval Total War" is greyed out so I cant click that. So when I try to play any of the campaings it comes up and says that an unexpected error has occured. So I tried deleting the game and trying it again, but to no avail. It is doing the same thing. Is there any way I can get this to work!?
Sorry, I did forget to mention that I have a computer with Windows 7 on it. I dont know if this will be an issue...because I just bought Rome: Total war, and that worked fine...so I'm not sure whats going on here All I know is that I paid $20 on steam and it isnt working (yet) and I paid $20 at Best Buy to get it, and that isnt working either

Re: Game Not Working
You're probably more likely to get an answer in the Medieval II: Total War Technical Help forum so I've moved this thread there.

Re: Game Not Working
For starters Win7 is great especially 64bit.
The first thing to do in this case is uninstsll the game starting with the Kingdoms campaigns.
Next delete all the Sega folders in Program Files and Steam and Appdata.
Next run a registry cleaner like eusing Free Registry Cleaner.
Reboot for good luck.
Disable the UAC.
Run windows Update until there is nothing left especially the optional software.
Go to Microsoft's website and manually install directx 9.0c.
Update your graphics driers.
Reboot for good luck.
Install Medieval2 in something like C:\Games. I have good luck with the default, some don't.
Install Knigdoms.
Install the Kingdoms 1.05 Patch.
Good luck.

Re: Game Not Working
Sorry, but I'm no computer expert...Whats a free registry cleaner...and whats a UAC??
And another thing...I have noticed that when I go to unistall the game, the only thing there to uninstall for M2TW are the Kingdom Campaigns...Could this have anything to do with my problem?? Because when I put disk 1 in there to install, as soon as it loads, it asks me to put the 2nd disk in there and installs everything off of that, but I dont think it does anything with the 1st disk...

Re: Game Not Working
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa511445.aspx is your info on UAC.
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...c-ae266159f587 is how to get it to its lowest level and out of your hair.
http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_...ry_cleaner.htm is all about the registry cleaner including download link.
The reason it's looking for the second disc is because you still have the first disc installed in Steam. Log in Steam and uninstall it form there. Remember the Steam version is about five years behind the Steam version and would not know it's there because it was never put in the code by CA to look for it there. That is where us humans have to be smarter then the computer.

Re: Game Not Working
Guess what guys! It finished updating on steam and now it works!!! I started my first game last night. Its still installing the Kingdoms expansion...but vanilla works! I guess its because I was trying to download over/on to files that already existed in steam and the computer wasn't sure what to do or something??
