Well with the Steam sale on and Mass Effect being all of £3 the other day, I decided to get it for PC (I had previously owned it on the 360). Now since you can edit Shepard's looks/gender it would be interesting to see what everyone here made him/her as. I'm guessing alot of people had it already, and more people do now with the Steam sale.

If this has been done before, you have my sincere apologies.

I don't have it on PC... well I do but for some damn reason it wouldn't run. I try to boot i up and it says it's had an error or some such and doesn't even launch. But on xbox he is a grisly looking dude with the Marine haircut and a scar and he's a soldier ( was that the straight up gun toting class?), I never make specialized dudes, just straight killaz. I'm actually very surprised at how many people make female Shepards. Not a fan myself, although Jaketh you've designed a pretty one haha. I don't like female chars.

No cause I put myself in that role like that's basically me playing the dude. I feel odd playing a woman protagonist, not to mention my sexist tendency makes me think she can't do what Shepard does .

Gambit basically just summed up why I hate playing as male space marines. Oh, and also the fact that Jennifer Hale's voice acting for female Shepards is far superior.

I would make a male shepard. I play all my RPG's as male and female chars equally, just to get different playthrough experiences. The problem with ME's male Shepard is his voiceover. He's the entire reason I never got past level eight with any of my male Shepard attempts. Compared to the quality of Jennifer Hale's work for the female Shepard, male Shepard is just cringeworthy. Downright horrible, if I may say so. And in a game where everything the main char says is voice acted, that right takes the atmosphere out the entire game and pretty much kills my drive to play.

The first time I encountered a Tranquil in Dragon Age I thought to myself: "Hey this guy sounds a bit like male Shepard from Mass Effect". XD

2:13. "I like the way you hid behind those crates during the fight. Really helped us out. Thanks a lot."

Always played with custom male Shepard.

I'm also like Captain Jin and Katsumoto, always goes for the man.

Hmm I can only see a marginal improvement, plus the man just sounds more like Commander, the woman VO is just too... relaxed or something. There's no urgency.

Well IMO there's certainly no urgency to anything the guy says. You know how kids sound when asked to read something in front of class? They pronounce every sentence the same way, everything ending in the same pitch. That's how male Shepard speaks. I see what you mean about the female VO though but in the video's defense, there's nothing really "urgent" being said to begin with.

Especially the "And I promise you all, we will stop him" bit (at 0:44) during Manshep's speech just... I don't know. It sounds so utterly, utterly unconvincing. xD Femshep's version of that speech actually sounds sincere. You'll especially notice the difference during the line-by-line comparison after 1:56.

I guess I just wish male Shep's voice actor sounded a bit more like Colonel Kilgore a bit less like Ventrilo's system voice.

Yeah that video is much better, I can see what you meant now, the woman has a much more varied tone to her voice. But I'd still play as the man, women and guns just don't go together.

Male Shepard is a little monotone and stiff, I agree. He's not bad as a jerk, if you prefers that.
Jennifer provides a more lively performance than Mark.
I can see why someone would like the female Shepard's voice acting and style better.

I just stick with default Shepard. He's generic, but he fills the role perfectly and I honestly can't imagine Mass Effect without his macho space marine image.
And he's on the cover of game.
