    Don't you think in this era, the Byzantines should be called the Eastern Romans (and maybe even in the 1080 campaign)?

    Default Re: 970 Campaign

    Technically the Byzantine Empire should be called the Roman Empire in all the campaigns they appear in because this was how they and others addressed them.

    The reason they're called the Byzantine Empire here is that I haven't updated the names of the factions to match their names in the mod (in all campaigns they're called the Eastern Roman Empire). I'll update this now.

    before Stjepan Drzislav (969-996) become king Croatia was in civi war and in internal fights it lost control of dalmatian cities, Stjepan Drzislav become ally with Byzantins against Bulgars and later cirka 985 was given dalmatian cities back from byzantins for help against bulgars,so Croatia should in 970 be the same as in 1080 only dalmatian cities should be teritory of Byzantine Empire...
    at the time raska,bosnia and duklja were all "free", they were under Byzantines and by raising of bulgars they became free shortly before bulgars conquered them... perhaps u should make one state (raska/serbia) and others rebels...

    Thanks for the information. Below is revised version of this campaign, the main changes are that Serbia is now Duklja with Ras and Bosnia as rebels, Bulgaria doesn't have Thessalonica, and Preslav has been conquered by the Kievan Prince Sviatoslav (this happened in the late 960's, so just before the start of this campaign). Is this accurate?

    I will keep updating this page, and perhaps open one poston the other campaigns.

    You see, Harald Greycloak (Fairhair dynasty), son of Erik Bloodaxe is dead. He died in an well prepared ambush in by Limfjorden in Hals(Denmark) 970. The last patch of land he own was Sogn(the western area which is closed from the player). All his brothers fled the country. He had no wife nor sons. Harald Bluetooth established Earl Haakon (Håkon Jarl) in power of Norway.

    Faction: "Norway", ON Noregr.
    Lets travel to Noregr
    See those Norse men running.

    "King":

    Hákon Sigurðarson, king of Norway in all but name. He was actually a Jarl (Earl). He was a strong pagan ruler from Trondheim (nobility of the Lade family), and gave great boost to the old gods in norway. He would clamp down on any christian follower and buildt several Pagan temples. He was in alliance with the Christian ruler Harald Bluetooth--Håkon's only de jure overlord. When Bluetooth imposed Christianization on Norway, Håkoon abolished the alliance in 975 and defeated the danish invasion fleet in 986. This consisted of the fierce Jomsvikingar and it's said his ship cleared away 25 enemy ships. He was boosted with joy from the Skald's(story-tellers) as a national hero with high authotity.
    When Haakon was in Denmark, Harald Bluetooth
    forced him to accept baptism and assigned him
    clergymen to take to Norway to spread Christianity.
    When a favourable wind came for Haakon to leave
    he commanded the clergymen back ashore.
    An impression of Jarl Hákon by Christian Krohg.

    Reign:

    970 - 995

    A licensed lexicon describe his character as "Håkon-Jarl must have been an able and hard warrior and a cunning power politician, with strong roots in the pre-Christian farming (nobility) community".

    Father to:
    Married to:
    • Tora Skagesdatter, daughter of Skage Skoptesson. In regards to Saga traditions, she was grand daughter of the son of Harald 1 Fairhair (the first King of Norway ca. 860–ca. 932).
    Parents:
    • Sigurd Håkonsson ladejarl (ca. 890–ca. 962) and Bergljot Toresdatter.
    Father-in-law to:

    I see the Retinue of the Norwegian Citys: Oslo and the south-western region of Norway have the title Greve. That is wrong and the title greve is also missleading, since the title is only one who oversee the region, not a day-day manager (Greve/Baron).

    The Lawspeaker of Borgarting (for the power house of Oslo and retinue)
    The Lawspeaker of Gulating (for the Stavanger and retinue)

    A lawspeaker was the same as a Supreme Court Judge, Speaker of the house and President of the Parliment, all at the same time.

    (This excist from pre-900, to 1660 when the dane king brought absolute monarchy upon the farmer nobility.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Renaming citys
    The city of Oslo should be renamed Aslo
    Stavanger should be named Stafangr
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Update: To give the propper Region Names:

    Oslo region, should have the name Østlandet.
    The western region should have the name Vestlandet.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Instead of Prince, we should use Erfingi and the Authentic Names when possible:

    Translated from an historian:

    Captain = Hersir
    (Sea) Captain/admiral = Styrimaðr
    Faction Leader = Konungr
    Faction Heir = Erfingi
    Assassin = Banamaðr
    Spy = Gestir
    Diplomat = Erendamaðr ("messenger")
    General = Hers-höfðingi
    Princess = Dróttning
    Village = Býr or Bœr
    Fishing Village = Fiskibýr
    Merchant = Kaupmaðr
    Port = Höfn
    Small Town = Lítill borg
    Large Town = Stórr borg

    It sound soooo much better.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Scandinavian Units byt WotN for 970 campaign.
    I might get a more modern roster for the medieval-rennisace periode too, hold on.

    Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
    I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

    The Anglo-Saxons were conquered by Edward the Elder in 937 so they are all represented by the faction England. Separate Anglo-Saxon factions would only feature in a mod set during the 8th or 9th century.

    My mistake. I don't know what units an Anglo-Saxon army would possess so I can't make the armies more Anglo-Saxon. Unless I can find an Anglo-Saxon mod set during the late 10th century the English armies will continue to look Norman.

    The Norwegian and Swedish factions are very inaccurate.....
    Norway:
    Ruler - Hakon Sigurðarson (AKA Hakon Jarl)
    Harald II (Harald Greycloak) was killed by Hakon Jarl sometime before 970, so Hakon would be the true ruler.....
    Hakon was also a very devout pagan. While Harald destroyed the pagan temples, Hakon rebuilt them, and sacrificed for the people openly, without any problems.
    Sweden:
    Ruler - Eric the Victorious (AKA Eiríkr inn sigrsæli)
    Eric's son and Heir's name was Olaf Skotkonung. They both were devout pagans, who sacrificed and practiced at the temple of Uppsala.
    I really hope you consider changing these factions.... your mod is very great but I would like to see these factions (along with the Rus') portrayed correctly. Thank you, and i really mean no offense by this!
