Patch 1.2 Refuses to Install; Unknown Error
Hiya.
I have M2:TW 1.0 installed from the retail DVDs. It's a clean install and when I try to update to 1.2 I get "Error: unknown Update cannot be continued." I've already tried reinstalling the game and deleting the folder/running a registry cleaner to no avail.
Help?

Where did you get the patch and what size is it?

Re: Patch 1.2 Refuses to Install; Unknown Error
Tried strategy informer as per the first link on the official site (~613mb), then the Update2 folder (~553mb) on the Kingdoms disc. Both were no go. I hear people say that the patch is ~650mb but I have yet to find a DL link for that sooo...

Re: Patch 1.2 Refuses to Install; Unknown Error
The one I downloaded two and a half years ago before Kingdoms was released was ~650mb. I forget which site I used.
The one on the Kingdoms dvd does work but two things have to happen.
1. A clean install of Medieval2. No mods, no edits, nothing but fresh install.
2. Follow it with the Kingdoms dvd and load everything.
3. One other thing that has been a thorn, if you are using Vista or 7, disable the UAC.

I did do a clean install of M2:TW 1.0, and I can't install Kingdoms without 1.2. UAC is off.

Can you read the Kingdoms dvd in Computer? If so, try to run the setup.exe in the Update2 folder.

Re: Patch 1.2 Refuses to Install; Unknown Error
I tried running it from the DVD, copying the folder to my hard drive, and I just got another copy from Gamespot, all times the same error. I'm starting to think my copy is bugged or something... but the game runs fine.

What other programs do you have installed on your harddrive?

Re: Patch 1.2 Refuses to Install; Unknown Error
The thing that has caused this more times than I can count is copy protection. It won't come and say to your face "Gotcha!!!". It will play games with you.
It's called SecuRom, made by Sony, and this version is modifyable by the game compay for their taste including EA and Sega.
EA games like Sims2 and Sims 3 will cause this error. So will programs like Nero and Daemon. The list is a lot longer.
The only other thing besides the UAC is the use of a crack.
That is why the question.
