I don't know if this is the best place to post this but here goes.

I was just interested in what foreign languages are offered in the school systems that you attend. Please post where your school is and what languages

A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

In Junior High I think you can choose (but you have to take one of them) between Spanish and German. Everyone has to learn English. You can also learn advanced Norwegian or advanced English.

In High School we get to choose between Spanish, French, German and advanced English.

Personally I had German in Junior High, and French at High School. Biggest waste of my life, I may add. So j'ai können un peut Allemandes und un peut Französich. I am better at writing French but I know more German phrases I believe. I also do advanced English, but my formal English is crap. What can I say? I learnt my english by gaming.

    Edit: Change -

I THINK Ungdomsskulen is Junior High, and vidergĺende is High School.

Dutch, French, German and English are compulsory, everyone has them, from "8h-maths" till "latin-languages". Latin/Greek/ Latin & Greek are the main subjects of certain programmes that offer one of these/ both languages extra.
I'm in languages 'cause I hate maths, so I have 4h of Dutch, French and Latin and 3h of German and English each per week, which enables me to make my point quite clear in 4 languages.
No school in the area offers Spanish, just because nobody here has advantage out of it.

Read the OP people, he is talking about education not local languages.

French and German are compulsory up until GCSE's (I didn't take any languages at GCSE level)

For some reason they don't do Spanish, although I know most British schools do.

My old school was a gymnasium (Almere, The Netherlands):

    Dutch (compulsory - 6 years)
    English (compulsory - 6 years)
German (4 (compulsory) or 6 (optional) years)
French (4 (compulsory) or 6 (optional) years)
Latin (3 (compulsory) or 6 (optional) years)
Ancient Greek (2 (compulsory) or 5 (optional) years)
    Spanish (optional)

After the compulsory years for Latin and Ancient Greek you had to choose one of the two languages to continue with for the next 3 years. German and French were compulsory for the first 4 years and depending on your specialization (science or social/languages) you had to do 2 more years. But the system has somewhat changed, so it's not the same as a few years ago anymore.
