Thread: Lesson 2

  1. #1

    Default Lesson 2

Ok everybody here's the 2nd lesson. I'm opening it a day early because I won't have time tomorrow morning. I'll add the .xcf files tomorrow. And one more thing. If your using a render you found yourself use a high quality one because I saw a lot of LQ renders in the last lesson. And that can ruin your sig Good luck everybody

Lesson Two: Advanced signature techniques: Perspectives, reflections, textured page curl (Lolgast) [WIP]

Ok everyone let's get going. In this lesson we will be making two Sigs; one more which will take a decent amount of time and one wich will be done a lot quicker.

    Ok let's start:

We'll start out with a sig containing a textured paper curl. Don't expect the outcome of this one the be frkng awesome, this sig is more about learning a few valuable techinques.

    Ok let's start:

1st of create a new image with wallpaper dimensions (1280 x 800 px)
Go to filters-render-clouds-solid noise and put the settings like this:

Now take the parchment texture and paste it into a new layer and put the layer mode to hard light.

Merge the two layers and go into: filters-G'mic-Arrays & frames-Fuzzy frame and set it like this:

Now merge duplicate the layer. Put the top one to invisible. Now go too filters-and the 3rd one from the top. (sorry I don't know how this is called as I'm using a dutch version and I know no translation )
    Put it to this:
    [IMG][/IMG]

Now go too the layer containing the curl. And go too brightness-contrast and reduce the contrast by -30.

Now take press alpha to selection on the curl. Invert the selection and go to the invisbile layer. And press delete. Set it to visible. You should get this:

Now set the layer mode to grain merge and keep the opacity at 100%

Now create a new layer and place it behind the other layers. Take a black circle brush and add a shadow under the curl like this:

Now go too filters-blur-gaussian blur and put the strenght to 50.
Now set the opacity too 70% and we're done.

And now comes the fun part In the next sig we're going to play around with the perspective and I'll teach you how to use C4d's and gradient maps. This one will take considerably more time than the last one. A little preview on the final result:

    @ Finlander
You have to put it in Gimp 2.0/share/Gimp/2.0/brushes directory. And again this can vary from version to version but if you put it into a folder called brushes your alright

    @ Blackadder
I thought about that but that just sounded to stupid

    Hi...

I have large problems with implementing this g'mic stuff...
I followed the instructions from the original homepage, to put the files into the plug_in directory, but it doesn't work...

I have gimp 2.6. and vista 64 bit... Do you have any ideas how to get that right?

    @ Raglan.
    The Pagecurl looks good.

    As for the sig:
Take a hard brush and remove the some pieces of the fragments so they're not cut off by the sig dimensions Understand what I mean? Also take a softer brush and delte some of the fragments over the center of the sig cause it's a bit to much now. Once I finish my Homework I'll take a look at the .xcf files.

I have a problem creating the border. when i select the border and put it to 1 i don't see a border, same with the rectangle tool when i place it to a 3 pix it doesn't show i only see the selection. Do i need to fill it with a colour or something?

i get what you mean, but i'm not really sure what you mean by hard and soft brush. Do you mean a brush on lower opacity?

Now I mean like you got two different circle brushes the regular one and the circle fuzzy brush. With soft I mean the fuzzy one and with hard the regular one.

@Hesus, yep you have to fill it with a black color. Seems I forgot that sorry

Looks good but you still see some stuff cut off by the sig his size limit. Try to make sure that those borders are not visible

And A notice to everybody! Next week I won't be reachable as I'm on holiday. But when I'll come back I'll be glad to check all your results out

It looks good but you should delete the bottom white layer so the BG will be transparant

And for Everyone with questions while I'm away I'd suggest you take a good look at the .xcf files. They are at the bottom of the OP
