Hi all, I'll get strait to the point. Me and 2 friends have decided to go backpacking through either Ireland or Scotland.
So the simple question is : 'What would you recommend and why?'

Ratbag in ireland? Oh no.
Kerry is lovely in the summer, and Killarney National Park in Kerry is brilliant.
Go to Ireland, annoy Ashashi
Biased I may be, but I would say the east coast of England over either.
Ireland
Ireland, less hills, better booze, and the entire place has oodles of absolutely beautiful spots. Of course I could be bias, I'm Irish.

^^Better booze?!
Go to Scotland. Lots of great Scotch Whiskeys and lots of beautiful mountains and lochs- more interesting scenery overall.

Depends. Do you mean wilderness backpacking around beautiful but freezing and slippery hills, or travel backpacking with youth hostels and pub crawling?
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.
A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."
Well a little bit of both, at least have a few major cities on the route.

^^In that case Scotlands your best bet. Glasgow has a great night life and to the north is a lot of beutiful scenery. Then there are also all the breweries along the West Coast as well as the North East. From Scotland, if you really wanted to, its also easy enough to get down into England via train or car.
Ireland (From what I have seen) is nice, but in a different way. Scenery isn't as spectacular- rolling green hills and woodland, similar to England in many ways.

IRELAND!!
everyones nice. just not the Irish chevs.
Dublin has a brilliant nightlife, everyone is friendly, unless you are acting the bollocks. And apart from Kerry, Ireland is quite boring. SO I would suggest try Kerry adn Dublin, then scoot over to Scotland.
Well there only are about 4 major cities in Scotland and Ireland combined.
Scotland has Glasgow and Edinburgh, the latter a must-see, the former with good nightlife etc. Also Loch lomond and the trossachs are beautiful, and very close to Glasgow. We also have the whisky breweries of course. The islands also must be visited, Mull or Islay are brilliant for breweries and seafood.

Trust me. Scotland.
As for what Copperknickers said, there are indeed only 4 major cities in Scotland and Ireland. Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow and Edinburgh. I'd throw in Aberdeen and Inverness for good measure, but that's it.

Ireland. There is a lot more than people are letting on.
Everyone has said Ireland, but no one has given a decent explanation as to why (Out of interest as I want to go there at some point)

Scotland. I've been there 5 days and it's fantastic.. the landscapes, the people... everything... apart the haggis recipe obviously.. disgusting for my tastes
Yeah I would say Scotland aswell..Having visited both Ireland and Scotland I prefer the latter, though to be honest I have only spent a week in respective country..
I really liked the scottish nature and yes even climate and I would certainly like to go backpacking there, lots of interesting historic sites aswell if one is interested..
