    What are your computer specs?

Application failed is something missing, corrupted, or something along this line.

When you were cleaning up your pc, did you go back and make everything is plugged in and tight? That's hardware.

What other programs do you have on your harddrive(s)?

I don't have XP anymore so hopefully the old memory will get you in the right direction.

Click on Windows Update. Look down below where your updates are listed and there should be more options including one for getting more updates besides Windows. Click on it and ti will take you to anther page. Click yes that youaccept and when it takes you back to the update page, click on it and see how may more you have.

Word of warning: DON'T click install. click to review the updates and any sound, chipset drivers you recognize or nusure of untick them so it cannot install them. Now click install, and watch the fun.

I have a feeling there are more but this will get you started.

"A picture is woth a thousnad words." to steal an old quote.

On the left side of you screen you see Software, Optional (13). Clck on it and see what is in there. Odds are there are many you need. Install them all. When it'a done, reboot, and do it, again.

Bad English? If you don't understand my American slang let me know.

I'll just add to what irishron had to say. Download the High Priority update - it is High Priority for a reason. Also download the Silverlight update. While it isn't listed as High Priority it does have an effect on other programs that you might run.

Next, you can probably safely ignore the Office updates unless you or someone else uses Office frequently on that system.

At some point in the future you should upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 - better security features and compatibility with newer programs. It's not vital but it could be beneficial.

Out of curiosity, what Optional updates were listed?

    Heh, loaded question. (Pun intended)

No real reason to guess - I was asking mostly to seize a teaching moment to explain the benefits of keeping a system up-to-date and purring.

What's the optional Hardware update though...
