How does this look? That's my finished product. I'm quite sure I've followed every single step. My smoke doesn't look as successful as most others, but I like it the way it is.

looks ok Ascarona.. I take it you cut that render yourself?

FYI: If there is enough interest I was thinking I would / could share my desktop via microsoft office or msn so that you could follow along... Alternatly I could possibly do a screen capture of the lesson.

Yup... couldn't find another good one so I figured I just take one from that Creative Assembly viking game and just cut it out myself, it still needs work doesn't it?...

Hesus completed GJ man. While your waiting for lesson 2 why not play with your smoke some more?

@Mr_B: can you change your background gradient it is much too dark... use a lighter red central and a darker colour red. The render and symbol ar ok.. and it looks like you have tried doinng the softlight effect on the symbol..?? please post your xcf file. Smoke could use work but that is not the main point of this lesson. lets see your xcf file KK, cool.

Because i need to do some other stuff as well. I might play around with it when i find some spare time. But your right my mistake with the smoke effect is that i should have made the canvas size bigger to get a better outcome of the smoke effect.

Ite. I think I just drew the symbol, then put it somewhere at the bottom of the layers, and then used the Dodge tool on one of the top layers to lighten the space around the symbol and to give it a nice effect

I like this viking, but I had to cut it out. And yes, it's my first try, used the lasso tool first and then that rubber thingy.

Maybe I need another that is already available. Do you know any good sites?

if step 8 you say to merge the text and rust-text layer but then in step 9 you talking about the rust layer again! what do you mean when you say merge down?

You should try the pen tool for rendering it makes smoother results
