@ Eol do you have blurred layers under that text? more than one layer? also you need to apply the effect to your symbol as well. And you have a sharp corner in the top right corner on your smoke layer maybe?

Ok, will do that. Thanks for the comments.
Edit: btw I changed some of your objectives a little bit to make it better looking for my picture. I hope you don't hate me for that
Objectives? I don't follow you? As long as you all have the key elements included and understand what i am trying to show you you'l pass. Key elements for this lesson if you havent gathered are: the pattern layer, the rust and stripes, the text layer with the rust overlay & the softlight effects.. the symbol with the same effects. the smoke was optional. Did you render that chick yourself?
yeah you can change things up yep.
but in your instructions you say that these steps are not for everyone
the smoke is not for everyone mate. Sorry I meant to say skip to step 8 if you are not doing the smoke effects. My bad
Here goes my Second attempt.

nice try's guys; both almost there!
@ Roloc, Is that you? Something doesnt look right with your text & your symbol. Is that motion blur layer on softlight? do you have the holes that you made in there?
@ Hesus, pretty good job, Text effect check! effect applied to symbol check! only thing missing is the holes mate then your done. As well I would suggest turning the opacity of the smoke layers down, or blending the edges more with the smudge tool.
Hesus, just looked at the xcf file. easy fix to complete... add the holes as per the beginning of this lesson. If you move some of the layers around you will get better results.. move one of the rusts below your render and turn up the opacity on your red BG! resubmit and your done!

not bad to start with. Render is nice. smoke needs a bit of softening.. use the blur tool and lower the opacity a bit.. you can also play with the colour a bit using the "colour balance" or "curves"
Have you added the rust layer duplicated the symbol blurred etc..?? See post #3 in this thread!
Ok mate since you asked.... looks like you got the softlight layer w/ the text there. Good! Did you do the same to the hammer and scicle? One thing that is definitly missing is the despecled text layer.. As well, use the smudge tool and soften the edges of the lower smoke.. or lower the opacityor both. TBH that render needs a bit of work... too light IMO.. but that is for another time. I am trying to find a desktop sharing software for free so I can help you guys that are having difficulty w/ the text effects all at once. I will keep you posted on that.
