Also, of course not on a day to day basis. As for tactics and armor, I believe Clibanarii had horse armor all the way around, but cataphractarii only on the front side and head/neck. Also, their tactics were very much the same, but varied depending on strategic situation. My best guess is that when serving alongside heavy infantry and huns, theinfantry would engage as usual, and then clibanarii would smash into the flank, retreat, and smash again, giving an opening for the huns and Roman infantry to slaughter the enemy, while clibanarii and medium cavalry cut off their escape.
