Both male and female walruses have tusks and have been observed using these overgrown teeth to help pull themselves out of the water.

The mustached and long-tusked walrus is most often found near the Arctic Circle, lying on the ice with hundreds of companions. These marine mammals are extremely sociable, prone to loudly bellowing and snorting at one another, but are aggressive during mating season. With wrinkled brown and pink hides, walruses are distinguished by their long white tusks, grizzly whiskers, flat flipper, and bodies full of blubber.
Walruses use their iconic long tusks for a variety of reasons, each of which makes their lives in the Arctic a bit easier. They use them to haul their enormous bodies out of frigid waters, thus their "tooth-walking" label, and to break breathing holes into ice from below. Their tusks, which are found on both males and females, can extend to about three feet (one meter), and are, in fact, large canine teeth, which grow throughout their lives. Male walruses, or bulls, also employ their tusks aggressively to maintain territory and, during mating season, to protect their harems of females, or cows.
The walrus' other characteristic features are equally useful. As their favorite meals, particularly shellfish, are found near the dark ocean floor, walruses use their extremely sensitive whiskers, called mustacial vibrissae, as detection devices. Their blubbery bodies allow them to live comfortably in the Arctic region—walruses are capable of slowing their heartbeats in order to withstand the polar temperatures of the surrounding waters.
The two subspecies of walrus are divided geographically. Atlantic walruses inhabit coastal areas from northeastern Canada to Greenland, while Pacific walruses inhabit the northern seas off Russia and Alaska, migrating seasonally from their southern range in the Bering Sea—where they are found on the pack ice in winter—to the Chukchi Sea. Female Pacific walruses give birth to calves during the spring migration north.
Only Native Americans are currently allowed to hunt walruses, as the species' survival was threatened by past overhunting. Their tusks, oil, skin, and meat were so sought after in the 18th and 19th centuries that the walrus was hunted to extinction in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and around Sable Island, off the coast of Nova Scotia.

I think you people are assigning too much power to nuclear weapons.

I doubt even every one of the nuclear weapons we have in our arsenal currently would end humanity, much less end life on the planet (that would be impossible).

as few as 10 nuclear explosions could put enough debris into the atmosphere to cause a year without a summer. this alone would be enough to collapse many countries and cause a global famine which would kill millions (or maybe billions) of people. and this says nothing about longer term effects of disrupting ocean currents on every ecosystem and climate.

rest assured, it would not take many detonations to drastically change the lives of every inhabitant on the planet. Just how drastic the changes, and just how long they would last might be subject to more debate.

If you build a deep enough tunnel, one bomb would be enough. if it's large enouigh.

I was told during history that the usa and russia during the height of the cold war had enough to destroy the earth a couple of times over. I imagen if you put whats left between the two, plus the few hundred everyone else has you would have enough to do it atlest once over.

Oh yes, but that depends on what you mean with "destroy the world". 3000 nukes would do the trick though.

It took more megatons than all the nukes in the world at the height of the cold war to wipe the dinosaurs, so a ton.

I thought about writing something clever, but then I remembered I'm not clever enough.

Even if you destroy all life on Earth, new life will arise in the distant future when the earth "cleans" itself. Even if all of the Earth's nuclear weapons were detonated at once, the earth wouldn't be destroyed.

Humans would survive, there would just be cannibalism and diminished hygiene.

    And Twinkie barons.

Two hundred and sixty million years ago the Earth experienced its worst mass extinction: 95 percent of marine life and 70 percent of terrestrial life vanished. Long a subject of dispute, researchers from the University of Leeds believe they have confirmed the reason behind the so-called Permian extinction.

A giant volcanic eruption in what is today’s Emeishan province in China unleashed half a million cubic kilometers of lava and tossed massive quantities of sulphur dioxide into the stratosphere 260 million years ago. The sulphur dioxide caused cloud formations across the entire planet. This cooled the Earth while subsequently dropping acid rain across the globe, leading to the planet’s most pervasive extinction.

Destroy as in "blow to bits" or destroy as in "kill everyone?"

    i recomend this chart http://www.projectrho.com/rocket/rocket3x1.html

2.1 x 1017 J: Tsar Bomba device = 50 megatons (USSR, most powerful nuclear test ever)

    3.6 x 1017 J: Earthquake 8.5 on the Richter scale = 85 megatons

    5.0 x 1023 J: 1 Chicxulub Crater = 120 teratons

2.9 x 1031 J: Energy required to blow up Terra (reduce to gravel orbiting the sun) = 7 zettatons

nedles to say nuclear bombs are over rated if considered by energy outpot. however we must take into acount fallout, that will cause several problems for about a century.

Chuck Norris jokes are usually always funny, yours must be the exception.

Anyway... Why would someone up the world, i somehow () can't see them benefiting from it. Or it could be a Worldwide Nuclear war but someone must of done something pretty enfuriating (like the BAI in empire) to start the war.
