Brasov CTD problem!

Hi All,

I'm not sure where to put this problem, since the Thread on the old RR/RC compilation is closed.

I'm playing as the Romans.
When I click on the Brasov settlement I get a instant CTD.
I've read a couple of posts on this problem, but have been unable to find any solutions that I can understand.
I'm using Vista, which its lack of language packs is at the root of the problem apparently.
When I go into the settlement files Brasov doesn't exist as far as I can see, there is a settlement called Bran? I think its the same place.
Really not sure where to begin with this.

this has been fixed in the new RC/RR compilation.
however it's still very much beta with work need doing on certain aspects to avoid other CTDs

Thats what I was afraid of, is there anyway to fix it in the old RR/RC? dont really want to lose this game, and Brasov is in my win conditions!

M - not sure i can remember the details.
has to do with the Hungarian letter s with the wotsit underneath.
If you can find all the times the word Brasov is used in the files and replace with standard ASCII Brasov -you may get it work
or try and install Hungarian as a recognised language on your system.

(doing a Search on these forums should bring up more info.)

The weird thing is Brasov is called Bran in all the files...
Tried doing a search, no joy, the problem has been documented alright, but no solution has been posited.
I'll try installing a Hungerian language pack, and see if that solves it.

well go to data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt and find {bran} and change it to brasov without the s and check if u get the ctd.

I guess the Romanian Ş caused the problem,use the normal S.
The game doesn't like letters that are outside the English alphabet?

Ş should be fine.

My mistake, i should have given the name with the normal S.

Went to the C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names

file and changed the S to a regular one, still got the CTD.

Is there anything else that needs to change?

Ok just started a new game, with the new game dont get the CTD.
There must be a reference file somewhere in the save game that is loading in when I click on Brasov.

so just to clarify.
you have romanian S in that text file, start a new game, click on brasov, and what does happen?
you have normal s, and what does happen on a start new game?

When I start a new game after changing the Romanian S to a regular S I don't get a CTD.

With the Romanian S it still crashes when I start a new game.

If I load a save game that was created before I changed the text I still get the CTD.

Did you try deleting the map.rwm file? You may be able to get your saved game to work.

No, the game will always create a new one after you delete the old one. The map.rwm file contains details of the campaign you were playing and even though you made a change to the S in the text file, you might need to delete the map.rwm file for the change to take effect in the saved game.
