I think I have found the reason for the unusual slowness in FOE: the distance to render sprites is set to 100, instead of 60 as in RTR and most mods.

With 100 you can move the camera high enough to cover half of the army in huge scale and still see many small actions like turning head, but it's too much for my video card to handle

    Yep exactly... That's intentional

Though for some it might indeed be a hit on your pc...

This question may sound dumb now but how exactly do i start the game with the standard desktop icon
    instead of the launcher?

On my desktop there's only one shortcut and this is the launcher.
Then there is the Start/programs/Rome Total Realism/ -> launcher (again).

I'm asking this because i yesterday installed FOE 1.1 and 1.2, started the game
with the launcher shortcut on desktop and started a campaign as Cartaghinians.

So i hopped straight into the opening battle without a chance to mess up anything
in the campaign before (or is there?).

I fought that battle and got a heroic victory (since starting on a hill that's easy) and
after leaving the battle result screen i had a run for a coffea. Returning to the pc
i faced the desktop -> CTD

Now one thing that maybe helps to find the source: my general (Mago me thinks) had
only 4 men left so there might have been some awards for him on the way (traits).

Or did i completely misunderstand that and i should use the "standard rome total war" desktop
    icon if launcher doesn't work?

:edit - btw i got RTW gold edition (in case there's a tip for patching the source correct)

Hi matey, nice to see you here.

I'm using Win 7 64 -bit but I've not come across that one before, I wonder if your desc_strat has gotten itself corrupted somehow. Maybe you'd like to try out something we're working on at the moment. It's a hotfix aimed at curing CTD's caused by the deaths of AI cloned adoptees and includes a new descr_strat file.

As a bonus it also includes voicings for the playable factions' units and increased strat map movement rates. Just extract it directly into the Rome -Total War directory of your FOE install. You'll need to start a new campaign with this fix and please note that it's a wip, which is why it's not officially released yet, but I've been using it without problem.

Let me know how you get on.

No it's not Alex because I have that on mine as well. From what you're describing it sounds like your BI isn't patched to 1.6! Check on the Details Tab of the Properties of your RTW-BI.exe (below), if it doesn't say 1.6.0.0 then that is probably the problem.

I wouldn't worry too much about that matey, as far as I recall, The Massyli share the same culture as Carthage.

Tiny text bug: the tooltip for the deer icon (livestock resource) northwest of Castulo in Iberia says "Allows the training of camel-mounted units (no associated industry)".

AFAIK, there are no camels in FOE, and anyway they don't look like deer

    Hi.

Does anybody know how to merge fleets? I'm playing Carthago campaign now and it's quite annoying to move hordes of one-ship fleets...

Unless both fleets have admirals in them, you can just select one fleet and right-click on another to merge.

The only way to add a new ship to an existing fleet, in FOE, is to have the fleet in anchor when a new ship is built. This is due to the fact that all the admirals in FOE are allocated traits when they are created and the RTW engine does not allow admirals with traits to be combined, and as every solo ship has an admiral you can see how that can become a problem.

In time we will be moving to the same kind of system that EB uses, whereby one ship represents a fleet, but until that time you will just have to be a little careful how you build your naval forces.

never mind - i found the answer in the FOE: installation issues only thread in the last post on
page one even tho i didn't expect to find it there.

You could include that info to the first post in download and installation thread since not everyone has
had experience with mod-foldered mods and it's hard to guess and to find.
