Default The Battle of Hastings Game

Want something to do after you've read the Norman Invasion Guide and still waiting for the mod to download?

Why not play "The Battle of Hastings Game"?

I wonder what you would have done if the mod had not been ready in time to release on October 14th...

Speaking of the Battle of Hastings, you may be aware of the annual Hastings event that takes place near the town of Battle. It is one of the largest pre-firearm re-enactments in existence. Some of my group went along last weekend to take part (fighting on the English side of course). I believe the Norman side is generally made up of German groups.

I wish I had that ability!

    Germans? Not French?
Well in actuality both sides are made up of people from all over - the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Scandinavia, Canada, etc. etc. I do recall an amusing anecdote though from one year when my group were there. When ordered to charge down off the hill after the fleeing Normans, instead of doing it willy nilly, they formed into a boar's snout and properly charged into the Norman line (which in this instance was indeed Germans) and smashed through. Cut down in the end, though...

The 2006 event was the biggest re-eneactment ever on British soil, with about 2000 fighters, and watched by 25,000 spectators. There is a video about it here.

Wee, that is a fair number of people, looks pretty impressive! Ah, too bad we don't get stuff like that down here where I live.
