Hi, I had serious trouble trying to get the mod to work with the installer so downloaded it without the installer as a .rar file and have extracted to desktop. What do I do next to install the game?

-Within your rtw folder, copy the bi folder and change the copied bi folders name to rio

-Then click on your rio folder from the extracted rar.
-Copy and paste the rio folder within your rtw folder so it will copy over the bi folder that is now called rio

I did that, so now in my rome total war folder there is a folder called rio, which has folders called BI and rio inside it. However, when I click the creative assembly game launcher, which is still with the other extracted files, the vanilla Rome Total War loads instead of IBFD. Any ideas?

Make sure the route that you downloaded your mod to is the same with your creative assembly icon launcher. Look in the launcher icon properties and you will see a target and start in box. Make sure your mod is located as it says in the laucher properties:

target: "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err -mod:rio

start in: "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War"

Is it dowloaded as above?

Yep, just checked, it's exactly like that. Still just loads up vanilla Rome Total War. Weird.

OK try this..make a copy of your orig bi icon launcher from your desk top. and fill in the start in and target as in the creative assembly icon

I dont think its allowing you to copy the files...it may have something to do with administer control...it can be done in your settings somewhere. It was posted here by someone who had a similar prob as you but he figured it out..he had to change his vista settings..Its on this forum somewhere

1. what do I do with the descr_model_strat? Where do I overwrite the file?
2. What's the difference between the two 4TPY scripts? Whats the difference between set alliances and not set? In set alliances, do you start with alliances and can break them, or you can't break them?
Sorry I'm kinda a stupid noob in these things.

What do you mean by question1? Is it an error message after installation? If so try to reinstall until this error stops...It has been an issue for what ever reason, but reinstalling the mod seems to work.

You can only break alliances and create them with the ERE or WRE if your one of those factions by the non set alliances, otherwise they stay set
